The places above are not in Pasadena and not that close depending on the time you want to stay in traffic.
Pasadena has hiking trails, Norton Simon a solid museum arranged chronologically and with a few Diego Rivera paintings.
I love sugar fish for sushi but there is more than one all over LA. La Grande Café is in a historic trail station and it is quirky. Maestro has good Mexican food but their margaritas are even better! Casa Córdoba for Spanish tapas. There are all types of bars and steakhouses. Also, vegan food if that’s of your liking.
Mmm love me some tapas, thanks for the suggestions BA1!
Venice boardwalk is terrible. It's super dirty and the "travelers" have taken over. Hit up Hermosa or Manhattan Beach instead. Great food in Venice proper though or Main Street santa Monica. but let's be honest if they are out in Pasadena that's an hour's away minimum and west side will be too far.
2nd the Arts district area and little Tokyo near downtown. Hollywood sign is a good suggestion or maybe a studio tour.
Stay at the Langham Pasadena. Roy’s is great for dinner too.
Pasadena is an hour from Venice each way. You might as well be in another metro. I would scope your visit from Downtown to Pasadena. You’ll have plenty to do. Grand Central Market for tacos de buche and micheladas should be top of the list.
Tacos de buche and micheladas!!! Love this suggestion.
Hiking (Hollywood Sign, Runyon Canyon), beaches (Santa Monica, Venice), entertainment (Comedy Store) and Arts District (breweries)
Union is the best restaurant in Pasadena.
Descanso Gardens, Huntington Gardens, Marston’s for breakfast, Union for dinner. Altadena has fantastic hiking trails through the Angeles forest and not far from Pasadena. I second the Langham suggestion — it is lovely.
You can do a lot without heading downtown or to the west side.
Venice boardwalk, there are some places for food. It’s my favorite part of the city!
