Health insurance premiums going up 30% next year for the cheapest plan. Thanks Obama?

That would actually be thanks to the GOP Congress and Trump Administration. Yes, premiums were rising under the ACA, but since much of its provisions were altered, go uninformed, or repealed, premiums are now rising at a faster rate than they wold have if the ACA were left untouched.

like

No, it’s on Obama. Despite the initial BS propaganda to entice buy-in from moderates that talked up how it was designed to lower costs overall, Obamacare was never anything but a means of expanding coverage to low income families—and they couldn’t be that honest and transparent. Classic bait and switch by the left rationalized by the ends always justifying the means

Bulge bracket bank. But I looked again: it was just for high deductible plans. Low deductible plans were up 4%

like

So I guess you have a deadline tomorrow.

Build a spreadsheet. The delta between the HDHP premium and the traditional premium is about the same as the delta on the deductible.

So go HDHP put the premium savings in a triple tax advantaged HSA. Take the seed money in the HSA, do the wellness activities for the premium deduction and realize that your well visit, one sick visit and much more is included for zero deductible in the HDHP and if you are mostly well that savings pot is like additional 401k savings.

Trump: "repeal and replace, you are going to love it! You will be a able to pick any plan at a fraction of the cost". I'd love to be able to market my garbage to his base!!

like

You must be in a small risk pool with some sick individuals. Huge firms holding this in the low single digits.

My company (BB) for 2019 is making premiums higher for all employees making over 50k and employees under 50k will be cheaper. Could be something in that ballpark as well

Our company is considering offering 401K employer match. We are about 200 employees venture backed company. We have about 60% participation mostly the non HCEs and only some key employees contribute. We always pass top heavy test and wpassed the 2019 ADP/ACP test. We are aggressively hiring and project there will be increase in participation, particularly if we offer the match. Given this information would it make sense to continue with a traditional 401k plan or go with safe Harbor plan?

Busy season was rough, things are looking better now as things return to normal. Still working crazy hours if you count the daycare duties on top of utilization targets.

Received a job offer. Was wondering if anyone had any thoughts on a concern I had about it. It's an entry level position, and I don't have much experience. The billables are 2040 a year. For billable hours in civil litigation and insurance defense, is 2040 hours for a 1st year associate on the high end in this field for a small or midsize firm? It seems like most attorneys I know have minimum requirements of around 1800. The compensation is around 80k a year.
