Lots of times they're entirely separate entities just housed in the same facility

like

Same as if you built a house but had to pay electrician and plumber separately.

Are most people satisfied with their experiences with their general contractors?

like

is there a specific question? as it’s phrased right now, they are totally different entities. quest diagnostics #1072 is different from dr. smith’s office is different from st. mary’s hospital.

like

Because we wouldn’t want nationalized healthcare, would we? 🤪

like

It’s billed separately because of the US fee for service model. Only you can decide if you prefer that to other alternatives.

Above comments are right. It’s also just a legacy thing where hospitals weren’t as integrated and didn’t actually employ doctors in a lot of cases.

like

In theory it is efficiency and econmies of scale. A specialized lab can operate in a much cheaper fashion and address non-urgent tests for those able to schedule lab tests. Effectively though the billing and management has gone sideways

Insurance. The answer is always insurance

Thank you for that hashtag, OP. I laughed.

I remember I went to the hospital once and was charged $700 for 2 stitches . Also hospitals will bill you and sometimes the doctors office and ambulance will bill separately also

This is the std model

Consultant vs specialist track - I’m considering jumping to the specialist track since I enjoy the technical work much more. However, it seems like it’s perceived as a step back. But what are the tangible differences? Lower pay and benefits? I’ve asked my cc but she doesn’t seem to have much to offer. Also, is the culture different? ….I really dislike working with hyper competitive people, most in consulting are great to work with, but there seems to be a solid 30% that are bad humans

Backdoor Roth or Kill student loans. Interest rates are 0% and .95% (0 will go to 4% soon and .95% is variable - total about 62K) I’ve never contributed to a Roth and now I make above the income limits. I max 401K and also put 16500 or so into ESPP annually (free money)

Question: what are the chances to get re-hired after a year if you leave your job for 1 year to move to a different country to take care of your spouse who is having mental health problems? My husband works abroad and with the travel ban he is unable to come to UK. He needs me over there but my company doesn’t have an office in his country with roles open. 60M people need to be vaccinated. Offering them $1000 each would cost this country $60B. Realistically, you can get to half of that population — $30B. One booster shot for 250M people at 80% uptake — $200B. For $30B - $230B, we can end the pandemic in the USA. Worth it? Edited: add in $5M for an MBB to do this math and put it in a PPT for you. And $50M for a big 4 firm to implement, botch, reimplement.
