Started at the bottom and grew my way to the top

I moved myself halfway across the country, scared to death, and convinced I'd be moving back home in a year or less, but also convinced that I'd be full of regret if I didn't try my best.

This was 20 years ago now, and needless to say I didn't end up moving home.

I was told by a former boss to meet him for lunch that I didn’t know was a interview. I came home with a job and honestly have worked my way up in my niche industry for roughly 10 years now.

I started in the 6th grade, selling greeting cards and metal social security cards door to door.

Fell backwards into it. It’s been awesome thus far as when you are successful in sales; you have a lot of autonomy, at least in what I do. Working at it definitely put me on the right path, that and having a mentor who could see that I was willing to put in the work and coached me to the point where I’m blowing it out of the water every fiscal month. It took a lot of time and effort though. Nothing happens overnight.

Has anyone here experienced rapid growth of a small company (circa 15 ppl)? Currently I put 10% in my Roth 401k. In January, I will have an HSA account. I am thinking of dropping my 401k to 8% and redirecting the 2% plus an additional 2.5% to my HSA. This will my my total investment contributions 12.5%. Reasoning being to lower current taxable income (allows to take full student loan deduction and more cash) and I will have medical expenses when I retire so why does it matter what account it comes from as long as they’re growing relatively same rate. Thoughts?

Is there an app to target specific houses or streets for when they go on market?

There are certain houses located along certain portions of some roads that I don't drive by regularly. But I would love to know if any of them ever go on the market.

I was thinking it would be great to have a Google maps like app that you could browse and select a bunch of houses and eventually get a notification if any of them ever go on the market.

Or, is there any other low effort way of doing this?

Hello fellow designers!

I was laid off back in August and I have been trying to get a product/UX/UI job ever since then. With the recession and all of the crazy things that are happening right now it has been even harder.

I had an interview for an Enterprise AE role and towards the end the HM said, “I think you’d be a great fit. I prepared a presentation for an interview with a sales leader, it went well and I was offered a final interview with regional manager. The sales leader I interviewed with gave me a bunch of feedback, but said to find out information about tech stack, which I for some reason, didn’t consider. I come to find out that deep, hidden within the website of the hypothetical client, they use the service already. Do I roll into the final interview and play dumb or do i present and then come clean?

Someone I work with took my marketing materials. Was a line crossed? I honestly feel really disrespected, it be one thing if they reached out and asked, but the fact that they just took them is really disheartening. They have my name and information on them.

I’ve been a club performing rep for years at a SaaS company…but as an enterprise account exec… my average deal size is around $75k in annual recurring, quota of $1M. This is inline for my company but low when I speak with others for Enterprise rep openings. Any thoughts on recommendations for steps to bridge that gap?

I was told that I was the chosen candidate for a new role that I applied for which will be promotion, I just recently received my offer and was surprised and decided to start negotiating. My boss immediately said that this is offer, either take it or lose it and no negotiating, and was only given a day to decide whether I want it or not, so he repost the position, and was also told that I was going about it the wrong way for trying to negotiate, Is this wrong of me to negotiate?

One of the hardest things to do in business and in sales is to have someone love what you do so much that they'll put their name on the line and refer you business.

That's a relationship you have to nurture.

And I bet that most of you have more than a handful of happy customers who would refer you business. The easiest way to get more leads and pipeline is to ask for referrals.

What’s next after auto? My health has taken a turn and I am no longer able to sell like I used to. Does anyone have any suggestions for another sales field with less stress and hours? I understand sales is by nature stressful but there has to be an industry where it’s less so than your typical Saturday at the dealership.

My company was acquired last year & new terrritoy assignments were made Jan 1st. The old AEs had until the end of Jan to close out deals they were working to receive 100% commissions & quota relief. The new AE taking over received 50% comm if the deals closed in Jan. After Feb 1st, the new AE taking on the account received 100% comm and the old AE received nothing. The two deals I had worked for months and in procurement Feb 1 close last week at 445k & $399k. $60+k comm to new AE - $0 to me. 😩
