I guess my first question is, the “health” work health and wellness or more hardcore medical where creative choices might take a backseat in deference to medical accuracy?
The latter.
Hella tough, as an AD who spent most of her 20s in pharma.
HOWEVER, if you end up at an agency with both pharma and non-pharma accounts, it’s easier to flop between the two sides.
I’m in the exact same situation… doing boring Pharma sh*t to pay the bills, but dying to work on consumer.
I have an update on this. I left health, worked on another small consumer agency for a bit, and now I’m back at McCann, but consumer 🙏🏻 It’s not impossible. It just takes time.
Not easy unless you’re making “regular creative branch” level work on the health stuff, which is very difficult to do.
Depending on how closely the two divisions operate, you might be able to befriend cd’s on the other side and see if they can slip you a project. Still, I wouldn’t expect it to be an easy switch.
That was my concern as well.
Kinda like what they said above. You need to show that you have some creative skills…which don’t often get shown in healthcare work.
So if you were to choose whether to work for a tech ad agency or a healthcare agency, which would it be?
Oh, your pharma experience isn’t extensive? Why didn’t you…Kidding. Still tech.
As difficult as leaving pharma.
It’s actually easier to get nonpharma work at agencies that have pharma accounts in addition to general market consumer brands.
