How important is it to workout with a trainer if you have weak joints/cant do a high impact exercise. I did nothing for a yr - now my knees hurt, my butt burns while sitting, my ankles crack, the list goes on... I tried physical therapy but the 4 sessions I went to - I mean not worth the $100+ that I had to pay (post insurance). At this point, I'm wondering if it makes sense to get a personal trainer and to ease the transition back to a somewhat consistent workout schedule. Fully vaxxed btw...

Family member is in their mid-70s still working FT but as an indep contractor and does not have employer backed retirement account. Income is close to $200k. Has reverse mortgage, some car loan debt, low assets, no life insurance. Has about $80k to invest. Should they (a) invest thru a financial advisory firm like Edward Jones (& pay applicable fees) or (b) simply invest their $ in low fee mutual funds or (c) something else entirely?

Can someone give me advice or words of encouragement here? I’m feeling quite burned out. My MIL has made remarks to my husband that she doesn’t understand why we need a nanny for our infant since I am able to WFH (I’m a biglaw associate). She also doesn’t get why we have a cleaner and dog walker and seems to imply we’re wasting our money by outsourcing funds on things we can do. She was a SAHM so I guess I understand why she feels that way, but how do I explain to her why these things are necessary? I actually love my MIL but this is driving me nuts.

Wife and I are going in with my BIL and SIL to pay for a retirement/40th anniversary/MIL's 60th birthday trip to an island for my parents in law when they retire next year. They think we forgot about all of those events and are going to lose it when we give the gift at Christmas. Father in law has had a lot of frustration, getting included in two mass layoffs in two years and taking two straight 40% pay cuts at the end of his career. We're so excited to give them something to look forward to.
