Look for other opportunities and leave this place if you can’t switch teams. It sounds systemic and deeply ingrained and unless those above you want to change it, you may just end up hitting your head against a wall.
But if you are determined to fix this and stay, you will need support- find a higher-up that will help champion change. Do some initial research with the team and people above you: what has been done in the past, what works, what hasn’t, what they think is broken with the process, etc. understand what THEY think the issues are and figure out how to solve for those. Plus, it will give you the context/language to frame the solutions in a way that feels like they’ve been heard.
Rather than having to provide watered down/sugarcoated ideas, start by asking them what they want to improve. If they don’t seem to see an issue with the way things are running, it’s probably a dead-end.
The specific teams supposed to do the work have a super effective way of shirking it - from just not joining meetings , not replying to emails , ignoring phone calls to having issues with webex and teams , immediate PTO etc etc.. since it’s the same people and the list of excuses has been constant and not sporadic I have come to understand that that’s there way to shirking work and responsibility ...
I have been seeking feedback and guidance from my immediate boss and peers in the team but what I am hearing doesn’t make sense to me ... they have asked me to not send meeting mins (which include action items ) as it offends people, to not ask people to do their jobs but somehow befriend them and ‘obligate’ them to do the work ...
Each time I have escalated to my boss, he/she caves in and asks me to do the work on behalf of other teams .. this doesn’t seem to be a sustainable way to operate but it seems like my boss has given up on any chance of improvement / accountability assignments ... I am being assigned work outside of my role and responsibilities and each time I push back, I am gently threatened ...or provide some made up feedback that isn’t truly factual. I know this may sound like a rant but I am genuinely interested in helping improve the overall working process , environment and drive accountability. I firmly believe this co has potential. Now I have been asked to suggest ideas that will help the team and being a candid person I am worried if if I am truthful I will only make enemies. Pls suggest sugarcoated ways in which I can make the suggestions without creating enemies. I am known to be a very candid direct professional and all my companies in the past really respected that ... I don’t think that will hold true at my current place. Pls suggest phrases words to help soften the message
