Looking at how to interact with my students better, I am looking for some summer PD. I have several students with Downs Syndrome and Autism. Does anyone know of anything that would help with these specific disabilities?

STAR training, Assistive tech (low or high tech) communication training, & TEACCH training. structure and routine with clear expectations are extremely helpful and supportive for any but particularly for those who are impacted. Hope you find this helpful.

Any current or former Google PMs here that can provide advice? I have a final round with Google and my recruiter is only considering me for YouTube roles as they are from that org. Someone has ordered to help get my application moved to the Cloud track but they asked me to think about this first

So far I’ve been through 1 IVF cycle. I have one embryo that is frozen waiting for transfer. My doctor is wanting me to do another round of IVF to back eggs for baby number two down the road. Has anyone been through this? I know of two people around my age that got pregnant naturally with their second baby after IVF. Does anyone know about banking embryos for future use instead of transferring? My insurance doesn’t cover anything so all this of out of pocket.

Am I the only one whose paras speed up group work only to say “they did it all,” then look at me for more work or go back to sit at their desk? I seem to be making piles of work and while I can work with my groups without flying through it (and I am not stretching it out to kill time), they seem to want to be done. I know that it’s up to me to say go slower, don’t do their work, or just ok, do it again, but I am tired of having to not only keep kids but also adults on task. Just venting.

I have high needs kids in my room all day. I am running out of things for them to do. Any suggestions?

Do you find that most content teachers are willing to do/try Tier 1 interventions or do they depend on you to do them? Or do they just go straight to the Tier 2? I think more content/mainstream teachers need to learn that Tier 1 interventions are part of THEIR job descriptions, too!

8th grade intervention specialist here…I have students who are reading well below grade level (3rd grade) and am currently teaching phonics and phonemic awareness but at times it feels very young for these teenagers. At what point, I don’t want to say give up, but do we stop teaching phonics? And if not teaching phonics what reading skills do you teach instead to continue to help their reading?

Does anyone have experience with related service providers wanting to discontinue services because the student is no longer making progress? In my eyes this is absolutely not a good reason! What are your thoughts? I’m mainly talking about OT and PT services for kids older than 3rd grade. Is there something I’m missing? I would never discontinue a reading program because a student isn’t making progress - I would work my butt off to find a solution. Is it different with OT and PT?

I need some help! I work at an all special education school and our library is in bad shape we have around 100 students and around 500 books. I'm writing a proposal for a community book drive but we need some really specific books too. Any recommendations on how to build our poor library? A lot of grants have passed their due date and donors choose has gone poorly in the past.
