My boss just gave their notice (3rd boss in 2 months) and told me to get a new job based on “mud within the executive level” of the organization (~5 years, 2 rebrands, etc). I’ve been there for 18 months. Looking at the recession expected to hit Canada in early 2023, I feel stuck; hiring is slow everywhere but jumping ship now means I’ll be the “last in the door” at most places. How would you navigate this? The decision will be made either way, but ideally I could move into something better.

I have over 12 years in B2B sales/sales management experience along with a graduate degree. I am wanting to shift gears and I am at a point where I can invest time in myself to learn through practical experience. The new industry I am wanting to pursue is real estate investment. I have read all the books but want some hands on experience on the property management side. How could I best leverage my skills for a role in this, and what should my expectations be for negotiation in compensation?

Currently a staff 2 in audit at a big 4 firm (will be promoted to senior later this year), and I’m curious about switching into FDD. I’ve been seeing the referral plugs in here from all of the FDD folks, but it’s mainly been directed at those with more experience. Should I wait it out to make the switch or would I stand a chance with only 1.5 years of experience?

Those of you who left for industry, what do you work towards in your role? I’m at a small law firm (2 partners; I’m the only associate) doing a mix of real estate lit, construction lit, commercial RE closings, co-op/condo law, representing developers of residential high rises in NYC, commercial foreclosures, and some general commercial lit. I’m only making $75k + a bonus of around $10k. I’m in my second year of practice (first year doing sec. 1983 lit at NYCLD). When can I jump ship to a mid-size firm doing commercial RE?

Parties aside, I think we need to get rid of omnibus bills, need to put a page length max, and it may sound dumb but bills should be written so an average highschool social studies student can easily decipher The Who/what/when/where/why of it all. Also think that it should be illegal for politicians to skip out on a vote or not vote. Never understood packaging nasa funding with adding laws for police or something.
