Same here - miss having intellectually stimulating conversations where we can ask 3 layers down the “why”; in the meantime, also enjoy talking about the “so-what” in consulting
I don’t miss it myself, and there’s definitely a narrative out there that people who leave the lab don’t come back… but I imagine that’s more self selected than there being real barriers.
The work we do can easily be spun as hypothesis & research driven, and frankly I think if I spent a year or two in consulting before my PhD, I would have been a better scientist.
I hope you are able to find someone who can give you clear answers here- best of luck!!
I miss it, too! Consulting has made me realize what I had!
I miss it. Very much. I am also interested to see what others have done.

You can always go work for a think tank, or a research arm/think tank within a consulting firm. Like the McKinsey Global Institute.
I missed research so much I’m working to build those capabilities at my current firm.
I miss different aspects of lab life. Like knowing every single aspect of what I was doing. I worked in a QC lab for years so, that wasn’t much variety in my day to day, lots of routine. I miss a lot of my coworkers, they were really cool and funny people and I learned a lot from them.
I don’t see myself personally ever going back to the lab. It was for me too high stress of an environment. But I get where you’re coming from.
I’m actually trying to switch into consulting! If anyone knows who’s hiring or open positions I’d appreciate the lead !
I don’t have the PhD degree and the reason I joined consulting was because I realized the cap. But I definitely miss doing the research and am considering seriously to pivot back
I’m a PhD trying to get into consulting, and remember: the grass is always greener. You left research for a reason.
Sometimes I miss the bench, but I really enjoy consulting. It is always something new…
Time at the bench yaaas. Some assays I enjoyed more than others lol
I saw Thermofisher was selling Lego set of replicas of labs. I really want one I just don’t know how to get one omg
