I’ve been a self contained SpEd teacher for 10+ years. Last year was my first year as a regular Ed teacher and as we all know it did t go as planned. Next year I will be working in a self-contained as the special educator- I’ve never worked in a situation like this where it’s the regular education teachers room and I just work it it- any tips or suggestions? And and it’s Kindergarten an age I’ve NEVER worked with 🥺

So, I’ve just completed an IEP draft, and as I was updating the present levels I felt like I had less data and less accurate data since we’ve come back this fall. I hate it because Its vital to have the data to put things in place for the student to be successful, although my students mental and physical well being and survival at school and in the world are more important than trying to gather accurate data when they are sitting in front of me. Any thoughts?

Hi! I'm a GedEd Middle School ELA teacher in Texas. This year I'm teaching 3 sections of coteach ELA and it's been a nightmare. I don't know if the coteach model is just a nighmare or if it's just the way my school/district has rolled it out that is making it a nightmare. Does anyone have experience with coteach? As a SPED teacher, what kinds of side jobs do I qualify for? What kind of skills could I put on an application/resume for other types of jobs?

I am a special education teacher and a student on my caseload had to move over the summer and was out of our school district. She was unable to move back until she turned 18. She now lives on the border of of ours school district. They had a meeting with school board and officials yesterday to decide if this student could be approved for out of zone! We did start school on August 10 and she was only able to return the 22nd. Why would they not approve her to attend? Thoughts?

Does anyone know what criteria determines how restrictive of a setting students are placed in?? I’m a preschool sped teacher in a 12:1 room and some of my students are verbal with a 25% delay while others are fully nonverbal with more than a 50% delay in multiple areas. How were they all recommended for a 12:1 instead of a 10:1 or 8:1??

How do you determine how many sped minutes of pull out your students need? I’ve heard some schools go off some type of equation of how far behind equates to a certain amount of minutes. I’m just wondering what other people do!

Looking for any and all ideas! I will be teaching in a Middle School Autism classroom. This is very different from what I did last year and will be even more so with COVID. I am trying to plan for my students each having their own work area. How are people planning to keep student materials separated by their own areas? What type of bins, shelves, containers are you planning to use?
