Overall I like MITRE a lot. Sure there are pros and cons, but MITRE has reasonably good compensation, is focused on public good, allows you flexibility to work across the whole organization, and has generally good working hours (eg most of us don’t have to do business development). If you’ve never worked for a non-profit/FFRDC, this could give you an interesting perspective on things. Hiring process is going to vary depending on which department you are joining.
Thanks! I think its the health transformation role for Medicare. I've been in a nonprofit before but this seems different and I'm looking forward to trying a different line of health policy/mgmt type of work. May I ask what type of work you do for MITRE?
MITRE is a great place. We have great education assistance program if you want to get a masters or PHD, a lot of people with advanced degrees here. There are some pros and cons of working for a company that operates FFRDC but most people are real happy here and stay a long time. Measuring stick of success Focus is really on the at large impact with our sponsors not just on numbers and metrics. Hiring Process will vary but usually consists of a phone screening and then a panel interview with like 3-4 people. Usually mitre makes an offer decision after the panel interview. It’s not hardest interview but really know what your applying for because questions will be based on that as they are looking to grade your expertise in a focused area for that department. Culture is great with a lot of collaboration coworkers and great work life balance and benefits and an amazing retirement plan. The healthcare FFRDC does a lot of interesting work in general.
MITRE is a place that thinks real hard about complex problems. We have experts in a very wide range of fields, and a presence around the world, but primarily US.
