Hello everyone, so I just recently starting my new job as a technical support engineer making 56k. Is that a fair value in the market? It’s my first job into the tech field and I accepted quickly because it was a huge bump to what I was making. However I just feel like maybe it was really “easy”. So just wanted to know if that’s about right?

What does your job duties consist of?

Depends on where you live, and if you have an engineering degree. I’d say for an engineer sounds a little low regardless of where you live, but if you don’t have the degree and no prior experience you’ll have to work your way into the salary.

•$150k in 401k/IRA
•$220k in real estate (excl. primary)

To calculate FIRE, am I only looking at the $88k that I can access readily? Real estate is cash flowing, but not sure how/if to factor in the equity.

Have an interesting be possible offer. The salary "might" be on the low end of my desire number, the health benefits won't start right away; takes 60 days then they begin on the first of the month following the 60 days. 401k contributions don't start until 6 months. PTO is only 10 days plus a number of company holidays.

Other than more base salary, are the things negotiable, like more PTO? What about also basking for compensation to cover Cobra payments during the transition phase?

I accepted my role about a year ago. They didn’t offer me my asking number but met me in the middle. I was told by the director that we could reassess my salary after my first year. Performance reviews happen in March so when I had mine , I wasn’t even at a year mark. I didn’t bring up pay then because it seemed too soon, but now im kicking myself for not at least pointing to a future conversation about it. With inflation, I need more than my previous number , when’s the best time to ask?

He has about 8 years of experience selling the same product in an Asian market. They have offered him a base pay of 68k plus some comission (they haven't said what percentage it would be yet). Based on glassdoor, it seems like this is the very bottom of their range. Does this sound fair just because he has no Canadian experience?

When is the right time to ask for a raise in salary? Nearing the end of my first year at current tech startup. We don’t have a formal process to request a merit or cost of living salary increase that I know of… there’s less then 15 people in our company. I made a big no no when joining the company and did not negotiate the salary before accepting. Should I informally chat about future compensation to my boss? He’s a pretty laid back guy and I think he may be flexible with me.
