Hello everyone! I would like to seek out advice from other educators. I am currently in the process of applying for a doctorate program. I am pursuing my doctorate degree in order to be involved in local and state politics, as well as being an administrator. The two PhD that I am currently look at are a PhD in psychology- Cognition and Instruction OR a PhD in psychology: Integrating Technology, learning, and psychology. Can anyone recommend which one would be the better option? Thank you!

Wow! Applauding you effort. I would attempt psychology with technology. With the forced adaption of online education, you can be the voice to guide us to a better system. We have to keep ourselves focused on something to get us through these times. True the pay increase may not be worth it as well as some districts will remove you to be cheaper, but you are willing to pursue admin status so that should be an issue. If it is, Nevada is always hiring.

I recommend that you use your talents to help yourself your family and others in spiritual way. If you look at world conditions they point to a time that is called “the time of the end.” With all the education you have, I’m certain that you have read through the Bible at least once. Look around you, please. COVID, earthquakes, civil unrest? How will a PhD prepare you for something that is certainly going to happen according to the evidence you see around you? Putting one’s trust in a system that has failed humans perpetually is never a good idea. I recommend that you simplify your life, and put your best effort into getting close to God.

Not everyone is religious. I'm sure that people thought it was the end times during Ancient Rome, the Bubonic Plague, WWI, WWII, and many other events throughout our history. You can live for the afterlife if you want, but don't expect others to make the same choice.

It has been my experience that you can do almost everything you can with a PhD as with a MS unless you want to teach at a university. You can over qualify yourself and be worse off.

Thank you for response and insight. I am a little weary about being over qualified, but this is a goal I have always wanted to achieve for myself. So hopefully it works out!

If you are pursuing a Ph.D for the letters and not the learning that’s an issue. You should pursue learning that is worthwhile to you not letters and degrees that position you in a broken system. There are so many other ways to make a difference.

Great luck to you🤗

I have always wanted to pursue a PhD but I got too lazy to go back to studying! So go on “with yo bad self” 😂😂😂! Congratulations and good luck!

Is networking still key as an experienced hire? Networking was really helpful when I was applying to consulting as a student, because of the clear recruitment cycle most firms followed. Now that I’m looking to switch to industry, I’m looking at specific roles / depts at specific companies. Companies often seem to want to fill these roles quickly so no time to network, and on networking calls people can’t help as much if you are targeting a specific dept. any thoughts?
