Being a self-proclaimed Cat Lady, having lived with 1-6 cats at a time, I have a theory: the work increases with the odd numbered cats. Two is about the same amount of work as one. There is a noticeable increase in time/effort going from two to three. Three to four, not much change. Four to five is enough I’m not planning on attempting six to seven😂
I grew up with a bonded pair in the house and then had an only as a young adult. My SO had any only when we moved in together and then inherited an only. We’ve rescued a few others over the years. Some liked each other and would play with each other, but none of the “raised/added as only” adult cats really bonded/cuddled. We got a bonded pair of kittens last year and I’m loving it—they play, they bathe each other, they curl up together. And they’re working on teaching their two year older brother to participate as well (he’s not coddling with them yet—near them, not on the pile). Kittens are destructive though.

Kittens are best adopted in pairs but be ready for mass chaos (but also lots of fun and cuteness!l
Aww they look just like my kitty 😻 He was a ginger cat, the best kind.
Two kitties is the best idea. I have a bonded pair of siblings. They do everything together. You just need more food and will scoop the box more. If they are bonded they will love and take care of each other. Make sure you are ready for expanse x2. (Vet etc)
I housesit a bonded pair and foster regularly! I would say it’s honestly about the same. They do great at keeping one another company and ofc there is more litter scooping. I recommend feeding at the same time on diff ends of the room. I would potentially recommend a senior bonded w a kitten! Or senior cats. They’re more mellow and less likely to be destructive.
This is really good info, thank you all! The bonded pair I’m looking at are around 7-9 months, so not quite babies. I’m also open to adopting a pair that are 1-2 yrs old. How do you guys deal with the litter box issue with two kitties? Do you have one box per cat?

A good rule of thumb is 1 per cat plus 1 extra. Or you could get a litter robot :) They're amazing and worth every penny! Just keep 1 spare regular box for them to use as they're getting used to the robot or if one decides they won't use it
