Unpopular take for DS background people, but a lot of data scientists are snobby about doing any remotely non-DS projects and tend to take an ivory tower academic viewpoint to everything. Your company needs you to add value today and not at the end of some 6-month ML study, otherwise you will make yourself a layoff target. Perhaps try building ML capabilities into whatever web app you are supposed to be building. After all, ML is becoming more and more of a sub specialty of software development anyway - 100% pure DS roles really aren’t that common. You’ll find the same issue at your next job in all likelihood.
Same here. Building data pipelines. Maybe you could try a consulting firm in AI. I’ve heard that it's pretty easy to be assigned to ML projects right away. Always depend on the firm tho...
