Hello fellow fishes—can anyone recommend a leadership development resource or two or three? A mentee of mine is having difficulties with a management team that won’t take her seriously & im trying to help her with that.

We did some leadership coaching that was helpful - you might be able to find some local coaches on LinkedIn. Some of the senior members also did 1:1 coaching which really helped them figure out their leadership style

A coach would be the ultimate resource. Also recommend they take their leadership development into their hands and start being a student reading people like Maxwell, Ziglar etc.

Maxwell is amazing. I would def recommend checking it out

I would potentially check out some podcasts on leadership and how to run a team. I agree that a coach would be ideal whether in person or online. Plus anything that builds confidence, that can help a lot.

There are some really great leadership podcasts out there. I would check out cocahing for Leaders. That is probably one of my all time faves.

Managing Up, maybe? Hard to tell without the context.

Here’s an idea for people looking for some pretty passive income. Recycle metal. I got permission at work and put bins with can crushers in the break rooms (I was at the cleaning company, not at the place we cleaned). People crushed the cans and every couple days I would take them home depending on how fast they filled up. I was making decent money taking them to a recycling center. Several of my neighbors saved cans for me too.

We provide new hires a voucher to use to redeem company branded merchandise of their choice. They have 30-days to use it, otherwise it’s invalid and the funds return to the company. Do you believe the value of the voucher needs to be taxed like gift cards? My stance is no, because it’s a company purchase and just giving them the option of which merch item to choose and there’s no cash value.

Hey HR Folks!
I work in recruiting at a tech start-up in SF. We typically don't share our latest valuation with candidates unless it's a very senior position, but I am seeing more mid-level candidates ask for it lately. My question to you all...
1. Do you share your valuation with candidates?
2. If yes or no, please share why.
Thank you!

I have two questions. I have 10 years of experience in multiple sectors and I have been trying to gain a leadership position. I am attempting my PHR this summer but what are some tips in order for me to obtain a leadership position? Also, how long does it take to obtain another position out of state? I am trying to move to Houston but I don’t want to move until I am confident I can obtain a position in the city before packing up and leaving.

I’m not old BUT when I was younger I thought it was important to have all the alphabets after my name (I.e. Phr, SHRM and all the others). I learning that the younger crowd coming into the market thrives off these identifiers yet they know very little about the real world aspects of the job. I watch leadership roll their eyes at the email footers. I feel like keeping those attached to my name hurts my credibility so I removed them…. I’m I thinking wrong?

I am looking to gain certification or other credentialing in diversity and inclusion, not only because it would look good on my resume both for future job-search purposes and also to become better educated in this area, which is growing in importance.
I looked at SHRM's "Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential" and got a bit of "sticker shock" at the cost - $1,655.00 for members.
Does anyone have other suggestions on training/credentialing in this area?

Am I being paid competitively? I have been the Onboarding Sup for my HR dept for over a year now and I’m being paid the state min for salary, which for CA is 62,400. I'm currently a Staffing Specialist, very early in my career (9months). My long term goal is to become a Generalist. I feel fairly confident in my role and after much advice from you all, was able to have a conversation with my boss about pushing my SHRM-CP test to next Spring.

Evaluating a job offer (yay!)
I have 8 years of HR experience, no college degree, and no HR certification. Titles held have been HR Specialist, HR Administrator, HR Generalist, Associate HR Manager, and most recently, HR Director for only four months (toxic). Geographically speaking, salaries are not very high. I was offered $45k in an hourly role as a site HR rep for a hotel with about 50 employees in a bustling college town. Should I try to negotiate more pay? Any input is appreciated.
