Hello fellow recruiters! I am looking to add credentials and have been seeing a lot about the SHRM TA Speciality Credential. Has anyone heard good/bad things about this or have any input on any credentials for a fellow recruiter? Or do you feel it’s best to just go for SHRM-CP or SCP?

Hey!
I would say it depends on what your goal is after you get the credential.
I would generally say (as someone who went from TA Manager to HR Manager/HRBP) in general, if you are looking for upward mobility into a management role, you are better off with the SHRM-CP/SCP.
If you are looking to just grow as a recruiter then that certification, or another one through the Association of Talent Acquisition Professionals (ATAP) might have some good certifications!
Hope that helps!

That’s an awesome goal to set and I think you’re asking the right questions :)

In addition to above, I think the industry you want to go into will also determine which route is best for you too.
Pro tip: search “Talent Acquisition Manager” in Linkedin and look under people to see what common credentials they have. If you have specific companies you are interested in, you can also look at people with those titles in the company. Definitely take a look at their profile for their credentials as well as their career trajectory :)
That you get an idea of what experience real people have in the roles you want, not just what the job description would say

Agree to an extent with above. What are your goals or outcome desired with it? Myself coming from a more strategic sourcing standpoint working across the enterprise in talent functions the SHRM certifications don’t hold much weight or value. If you’re wanting to move over into a more internal people focused role in HR then likely it would help.

When supporting senior manager to executive level talent needs the only certification that would slightly give interest was the AIRS Diversity Recruiting Certification. Better credentials in Talent Acquisition are where you’ve made an impact and how it was done.

I don’t think that an HR role is a promotion or always the right direction. However, I think having the HR knowledge will make you a better leader in talent acquisition. I was an HR director and quite honestly I didn’t see the challenges I see in leading a strategic talent acquisition team. But having the skills of HR will give you a great foundation. I have a CPC certification and that required a foundational knowledge in both areas and I feel my skills are very broad-based and well-rounded.

Hi everyone! Just looking for some insight. I’m about 4 years into HR, have my bachelors. I’ve been toying around with the idea of getting my masters in something relating to compliance/labor law and that side of HR. Shrm certification is also on my list. If anyone has some advice on what to get a masters in specifically, I’d be open to suggestions! I’m trying to find something that would be worth my while and would give me a step up. Thanks!

So, a recruiter gave me feedback that my lack SPHR or SHRM-SCP is causing my resume to be knock out by AI and human recruiters despite my position and work history in Multinationals and being in Technology. They suggested that we put SPHR ( Lapsed). I let it lapse in 2017. What is your opinion? Plus if I were to take another certification - should I take SPHR or SHRM-SCP?

I signed up for the SHRM CP exam. Anyone have fairly recent materials they’d be open to selling or sharing? Would love to not pay 700-1000 on access to the learning portal or a class. With my masters, I can’t get EY to cover the certification but it’s something I wanted to do this year.

Have anyone done contracting negotiations before? I've interviewed for co A & B and co A extended an offer today. The offer does not meet my current salary. Co B's interview structure is 3 rounds and I've finished my 2nd round today. The recruiter mentioned that since I am a contractor my current salary is incomparable as they will provide benefits, etc. Is this true? I have 2 yrs of contracting HR exp from fortunate 500 co’s & OMW to get my SHRM-CP. Appreciate your advice in advance.

Despite all of this, she’s pulled into “the room where it happens” more often because she’s officially more senior to me.. cont.
