I’ve seen people reapply after more prep after a year and do great. I have interviewed tons of people and can honestly say that most of them may have passed on a different day with a different case or a bit more prep. Sometimes things just don’t go your way in an interview. Don’t let it keep you down!

likeuplifting

Thanks for the encouragement BC3. I will probably invest in a case prep program or class and shoot my shot next year.

I’ve been rejected by multiple MBBs several times. Head up and keep going. For what it’s worth, I’ve found the interview process much more stressful than the job. I’m not a great interviewer but I’m consistently rated as a top performer.

Hats off to you for continuing despite the initial rejections. I failed a first round at McK and a second round at a boutique. But I’ll continue to practice and try to interview with Bain or BCG. Fingers crossed I get to follow your steps and join one day. It seems all the people at MBBs are so smart and nice people and I can’t wait for a chance to join and team up with like minded individuals 🙏🏾.

If you found the interview that stressful, your not going to like the job.

Bombed interview for MBA summer, reapplied and hired during full time recruiting.

like

Yeah basically - I added some internship experience. Obv the resume is the not the issue if you are getting the interview, once you have the interview it's all on your performance

helpful

Failed after mck round 1, got invited to bcg month later

like

Isn’t the cover letter mandatory? Did you just submit a blank file?

Failed round 1 experienced hire at Bain, applied 2 years later and got hired at the level above

likeuplifting

That’s a goal for me. Can I dm you to check out my resume? I’d love for someone there to check it out before I submit.

Yes , and sorry to hear OP. I got rejected three times from Mck . Once in UG. Twice in MBA in final round (internship and full time). I let it go but then got an opportunity to join McK as experienced hire associated and have been loving it (I have 5 years work experience in the industry I primarily consult on). I made it to EM in 13 months and was rated distinctive twice. Interviews can be indicative of potential but they are always flukes. I find the interview a LOT more stressful then the job. Good luck to you!

Thank you MC4. Hearing stories like yours motivates me to keep trying and enhancing my casing skills.

I bombed my first round right out of college. Reapplied and got an offer a couple years after after grad school. That said, no need to get another degree to reapply. Just have to wait a year I think

like

Good to know MC1. And congrats for persisting. My recruiter said to wait 18 months and try again and I’m planning to continue casing weekends to get better at it while hoping to get a chance with BCG or Bain during that time.

Interview at all of them instead of waiting for 1 year

Bombed undergrad recruiting for mbb three times (between internships and full time) but ended up getting mba offers a few years later

like

Rejected from McK at least twice and BCG and Bain at least once and later got offers from McKinsey and BCG and told I’d get one from Bain but pulled out. Definitely possible!

uplifting

Agreed AC1. That’s what I’m trying to do… if only I can get recruited for BCG and Bain. I’ve been practicing cases for 4 months now and I’m finally getting the gist of it. Will appreciate recommendations if possible

Thanks AC1. I’ll dm you right now

Maybe Europe viewpoint but still. Failed McK/BCG, worked 1.5 years in Accenture, got into McK/BCG

I make $132k~ base+bonus before tax at a boutique in a T2/LCOL city (Atlanta, Houston, Salt Lake City). Good benefits, excellent culture and wlb. I'm an expert in my niche and overall a very conscientious and competent person. I get my work done in 20 hours or so each week. Some months I average less than 10 hours of actual work. I've been wanting to get a T15+ MBA for some time, but most exits have poor WLB. Am I crazy for wanting to leave my current gig? (cont)

Can somebody please explain to me why MBB and other top consulting firms are so adamant that you have an MBA? I majored in accounting, finance, and operations management at a top 10 undergrad business school and then got my masters in information systems from the grad school program. I took multiple MBA courses as electives when getting my masters and it seemed like those classes were very basic and easy. Idk if I would learn anything in an MBA program that I hadn’t already learned in undergrad

Is it reasonable to be expected to spend 20-30 non-billable hours a month checking your paralegal’s work? (i.e. summarizing hundreds of records and bills). The partner said he “didn’t use paralegals” at his previous firm and eating the time is an “investment in yourself.” Is this common?

Should I take/report gre? I’m wondering if well-written essays make up for a lower than average (by like 2-4 points) verbal gre score
