Question about retirement accounts - my company offers after-tax 401k (not Roth). Bonus is a substantial part of my income - is there a tax advantage to contributing only to after-tax 401(k) during the calendar year and then maxing my pre-tax 401(k) (22,500 next year) exclusively from my bonus given the higher withholding rate? Am a little unsure of the math.

I sent a FL contract to a new client and they came back to me with a cap of 20 hours on the project. It’s for a press release and an opinion piece along with research and pitching it to trade publications. When I initially accepted it at a $100 hourly rate, I assumed I’d be able to bill in the hours. But the cap limits the work I can do. How do I negotiate? I don’t want to lose the client but also want to do what’s fair to me. Any advice on how to proceed?

Happy Friday everyone! I’m a trading analyst looking to get a sense for comp both at BLK and other firms. Comp isn’t all that matters to me - i care way more about the work and the people. However it would be good to know what i could be pulling in somewhere else. I make 90k base 5k bonus and i want to head into year end asking for 110 base. Is that feasible? I think my work speaks for itself when it comes to why i deserve it… but ultimately want to know if this is justifiable for 2nd yr analyst

I need help on how to negotiate salary for my dream job, knowing that I still have more interviews with other companies and another offer came in that has a lower salary, but better bonus + RSUs which brings total compensation to be slightly higher that the job I actually want.

I’ve negotiated in the past when my offers were peanuts in comparison to what I would make now. So is ~10% increase or $10k+ more in base salary and sign-on bonus too much to ask for? What do you think is reasonable?

What is your firm’s policy for compensating female equity partners/shareholders who take the allotted amount of maternity leave (and thus may have collections from clients but no chargeable hours)? Are they just hung out to dry from a comp perspective for that year or does the firm step in and support from a comp perspective the hours lost as a result of maternity leave? Coming from a mid to big law firm with an eat what you kill structure and a single tier of partnership.

I think this has to be done — worst bar to go to as a single, female consultant? Stories welcome 🤗
