What companies would be best for a software engineer who is a new grad and why? I am particularly interested in growth opportunities and total compensation.

I have an opportunity working for my dream company but I was told my salary expectations were too high. I was using my last job as a reference since this is a lateral move (I was laid off a few weeks ago). Was I overpaid or is this company just cheap?

Former TC: ~140k (125k base + 30k sign-on paid over 2 years + 50k RSUs w/4 years to vest)

YOE: 5+ years total; 2 years as PM

What's the comp expectation for L5 in strategy & ops in Bay Area?

Separately, recruiter mentioned Google is 0.5 to 1 level higher than Facebook, but I don't see that being the case at least benchmarking to PM on Levels.

Hi everyone! I’m a new professional (<1 year post grad) and I’ve been offered a position that I’m really excited for at a non-profit. The posted salary range was $48-58k and I was offered $53k, which I think is fine, but I’ll be moving to the LA metro area and I’m a little concerned about the cost of living. Im also not sure what kinds of benefits so should be asking for, the letter just says “employer contribution to health insurance if necessary, details TBD”.

What do you do about missing work? I have so many students that miss days or just don’t complete work in class and are given the work to make up, but it never gets turned in. I spent so many days tracking down so many students hounding them for their missing work. Do I keep hounding them or make them be responsible 8th graders and give them zeros until they learn.
