Hello from Sydney! We've been locked down for 5 weeks and due to be locked down for at least another four due to COVID. What did you do to stay sane when you were under stay at home orders? I'm exercising daily, trying to cook something new each week, practicing the piano. Just in a mental slump and feel so sluggish and demotivated, struggling to get excited about anything these days.

That’s exactly what I did. Is this your first time bein locked down? Don’t feel the pressure to “CREATE” that was a trap a lot of people fell into and they found it exhausting

Nah this is our third now. Agree with you re: that pressure, making it out the other end of this thing alive and well is enough of an achievement.

Do you have kids? If the answer is no, then just sit back and enjoy.

I'm in Ontario, Canada - just FYI because wow have we had lockdowns. My personal experience has been to just accept that there's a lockdown. I think a lot of the mental stress comes from thinking "omg, I can't go out? But what if I want to..." and it builds from there. There's nothing exciting about staying home. That's ok. We're in a pandemic, it sucks, but one way or another it will pass. I did what I could at home to workout and eat well, but when I couldn't I didn't beat myself up over it. Try to schedule virtual hangouts with friends, complaining is always helpful haha. I hope this helps and I hope your lockdown passes quickly!

Stay home does not mean stay inside. Get outside as much as you can, and don’t rush to get back.

This is probably entirely unhelpful, but try not to focus on yourself. You guys had it good for so long. This is part of dealing with a global pandemic and there are many worse ways you could be dealing with it right now. Practice gratitude, try to do things for others, or at the very least, don’t focus on your own boredom or suffering. It doesn’t help with either symptom!

We’ve been in lockdown - with varying degree of restrictions - for more than a year. I think we’re the longest in the world (?). What worked for me were: Find people with the same interests. I’m on Discord with my friends almost every day and sometimes watch movies together on weekends. I facetime my nephew every night, after work. I play my favorite games. I read on my downtime. And when restrictions are more loose, I go out to the gym or even staying in open cafes just to take a breather. Basically doing the things I did like usual, but now indoors/at home.

Gardening. And not trying to be super productive. Give yourself permission to go a little batty / just don’t drink tooooo much - it’s really easy to slip into more and more 🍻.

I've been working from home through all of the lockdowns in the USA, so sanity and boredom haven't been an issue. Plus, lacking the commute I can sleep more and I've had the time & energy to exercise more frequently while working on a couple of side hustles. Plus, I get to walk the dogs at lunch, or take a nap on the deck. To me, lockdowns are so freeing. ;)

Philosophical question (not trying to be political, just a genuine question I’ve been grappling with): do you think being pro-choice and pro-vax mandate are logically inconsistent? Both are sincere views of mine, but upon further reflection I haven’t been able to think of a way one position could be completely defended without undermining the other. Goes the other way for pro life/against vax mandates as well. The fact is, they just feel different to me, but I’m not sure why. Thoughts?

My principal approached me in the car pick up line on Friday to inform me that I’ve taken to many days off & school has just started. I took 1day off when my daughter tested positive for Covid, I had an doctor’s appt that had been scheduled 6 months ago to see the hematologist. Being that I’m anemic, current labs showed I need to have 2 iron infusions. I put in for 2 more days off to have that done. He told me in the future to wait until a work day! We done have any until December!!
