Hello Guys,

I feel stuck!

I have 3.6 yoe in Java Backend.

Tech Stack - Java, Spring Boot.

I am about to make a switch. However, I am afraid I haven't learnt much about software development or more about spring boot all concepts.

I believe I might have hard time delivering in new company.

I have worked mainly on creating new Apis. Debugging and doing small enhancements.

Open to suggestions.

Don't worry. I started as a manual tester and after three years switched to Java backend developer in one service based company with 100% hike on fixed ctc. It was 2021 - hiring was at peak and two month of youtube prep helped me to get through.

I crystal clear remember on day 1 of project onboarding, they gave me the code repo URL in chat and asked me to take checkout and clone the repo in my local machine and do a run to check the flow of code.

Everything went above my head. And mind you this was in 2021, no chatgpt or Ai or anything. Only stack overflow and geeks for geeks was allowed in office laptop. No youtube also.

I was humiliated and embarrassed in front of 6 people (two were college freshers three years younger to me) and I still remember all the exact words used. I'm a bengali and was posted in Chennai and they used to mock me during lunch in Tamil sitting beside me. For my lack of skills.

Fast forward to today - completed 7 years in the industry - with 4 years of experience as a java backend developer. Currently leading a team of 4 developers and received multiple client accolades and appreciations. The same people who mocked me used to come to me during any critical prod issue.

Also switched again last year with good hike.

Keep faith. No one knows everything. Everyone starts from somewhere. Just the starting lines are different. You'll catch up with them eventually, just you have to put more effort than them. All the best.

Mind sharing your story? How did u do it? At what exp etc

Don't worry, take action. Just switch, another company will also have the same situation about the work. But at least you will get more salary

About the kind of work a developer has to do ? Won't they be expecting more from a 4 yr exp.

I have enough prep time, apart from Java and spring boot what else I need to work on ?

What kind of roles and responsibilities does a 4 yr exp Java backend guy have to take ? What to expect from him ?

Heading into 2023, here are some phrases I'm eliminating:

1. "No worries."
2. "No problem."
3. "Sorry to bother you."
4. "Does this make sense?"
5. "Sorry, I'll fix that right now."

Here's what I'm replacing them with: ⤵
1. My pleasure.
2. Of course, happy to help.
3. When you have a minute, can I get your opinion on ____?
4. Does this help you clarify things?
5. Thank you for catching that!
