What Sped teachers wish Gen Ed teachers knew....
I’m new to covering as a Teacher in Sped in Washington State.I just started online College to get a BA in Elementary Education.I have been a Para in Sped for 7yrs & 7 months now.My Teaching will start on August 24,2022.I know nothing about the paperwork or to set up curriculum for the kids.We deal with Preschool to 8th grade.Some Head Start kids which are 3yrs old to 4yrs old.I am kinda on my own for curriculum. Our kids do a lot on laptops for Reading,Math,and some writing.They use to journals.

How active are your parents? I made how to videos for my parents and acknowledge to them that teaching is messy. They see me make mistakes and laugh about it. All my zooms are recorded so parents and students can watch when they can. My parents work and so they may see them at all hours. I also do pencil paper. We exchange completed work and new wk work on Friday’s. I have overall been successful since schools went virtual last March.
Boom cards, jam boards, slides that are game boards, Kami, flippity, padlet, it depends on the age and level of disability
Kids love Boom Cards. There are plenty of free ones. Jamboards is also good. They can write on sticky notes within the program. Have them put their name on it before posting so you know who it is. Look into Facebook. Both have groups you can join.
Checkout remote learning games and activities from Box Cars and One-eyed Jacks- there’s a free remote resource page- we played via Zoom when we were remote last spring. Most of the activities are adaptable for students.
I use a spinner. Load your class, load another one with questions and spin away. I use pickerwheel.com.
