Time to move on - if they can’t see the value you add and appreciate all you do by rewarding and recognizing your efforts with a promotion or pay increase then it’s no longer worth your time and energy. Add everything you do to your resume and LinkedIn and start looking otherwise you’ll become resentful and no job is worth your peace of mind :) good luck!!
Do the extra tasks actually align with the next level? Or are they admin/non career progression?
Just putting in hours ≠ promotion.
Look at the next job level above yours and see what you’re hitting in terms of roles/responsibilities. Take proof of that to your boss.
If there is no formal job roles/responsibilities ask your boss if you can together set specific goals to get promoted.
I would feel taken advantage of too if I were you. Four years is a long time.
That’s true, it’s been a while since I looked at the job description for the next level, but I think I had most of the requirements. The promotion isn’t the main reason I’m upset though. I’m mainly irritated that I’m the only one doing these extra tasks plus my regular job role. I had appendicitis a few weeks ago and had to be on LOA and when I came back no one had done my work so it just piled up.
Well… did your manager assign work to your teammates? When others go on PTO, does someone cover their work? Or does it wait for that person to come back?
Going on unexpected leave is a little different, because you can’t rearrange workloads as quickly.
Without knowing what your job is, it’s hard to know how easy/difficult it is for someone to pick you your work.
You should just look for a new job friend. If they can't value you after four years, I doubt they'll start now!
Well maybe I am being a little unfair to my boss. Google 1 does have a point that it is unexpected leave. The lead admissions tech knows how to do parts of my job, but to be fair, we are very understaffed at the moment. On the other hand, we’ve been understaffed for about a year and a half now. When I started we had 5 people at the front to help register and now we have three and it’s the end of the year which is always super busy. I think I’m just tired and I feel bad because I’m in charge of uploading mammogram images so radiologists can compare and I found out today that a patient got called back for imaging because of suspicious nodules in her breast. It kills me because it could be cancer. Fortunately I got her previous images today so the radiologist can see if the nodules are stable or if they are new. This may be confusing to those who do not work at a radiological facility, but it’s a big deal when patients get called back for imaging because it could mean cancer and because I wasn’t there to request imaging from other facilities or upload those images it is delaying patient care.

Four years is a long time especially when inflation is already eating up your paycheck every year
