HRBPs what the average number of EE you support?
Any time a serious responsibility is added to your plate, I think it's worth asking for a raise. How could anyone with fixed control of the budget neglect that you're doing something a previous person did where money was allocated. It's worth bringing up.
You can ask, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be taken into consideration. Especially because a lot of budgets are being rounded out now. Give it a shot, though.
This is currently happening to me! I suggest that you make a note of everything that you’re doing and how you’re contributing to the success of your company and bring it up in your performance review. I would ask for a 5% increase.. more than likely they will negotiate 4%. Document everything that you bring to the table.
For how long have you been doing the extra responsibilities? It is not any of the implied duties your position has? If you have been handling these added responsibilities for a reasonable period of time, then I think it is just right to ask for a raise.
For four months!
I would not ask for more. However, I would ask if this additional scope warrants looking at your pay, and potentially increasing.

Yes, especially because onboarding is such a convoluted part of HR that touches multiple teams - it's always a mess!
I can tell for sure that asking for a raise in this situation will most likely be an uphill struggle and IMO you are in risk of not setting yourself up for success. Consider the argument you are making: you are being asked to conduct extra work, which will make your workday more hectic. Money won’t change that...
It is a better option to do as proposed in a previous comment and gather documentation about all the value you bring - including being flexible and taking on extra work - and use that in a subsequent negotiation.
Alternatively, if you believe you are unable to comply with your current task as well as the onboarding, state this and explain what the impact will be (eg lower quality, more overtime, etc). Ask that you and your manager deprioritize some of your tasks. Remember that you can generally adjust the scope, quality, timeframe, and resources in any given task.
If you do choose to take the opportunity to negotiate, make sure it does not come across as “blackmail” and try to relate what you are asking for to real word value and not money. For example “the extra work will undoubtedly require me to put in more hours. I'd like to make sure that I'm able to give it the quality and attention this task deserves and a raise of XYZ would enable me to buy takeaway/pay for house cleaning x times a week, making it possible for me to make ends meet in my personal and professional life”.
Best of luck ☺️
I really appreciate this. Putting my concerns in this frame of work makes a lot of sense and it’s truly how I feel about the additional work hours and not being able to spend more time with my family and personal life falling apart. Really great advice. Thank YOU!

How big is your company? How many ppl are being onboarded and what’s the frequency? What’s the on boarding process?
Yes, you should. However, the chances are low. You can still try. Maybe a 3-5% increase is reasonable.
Yes. You did the right thing. It is an additional work that warrants a raise.

I’ve never requested a pay raise for extra work and it’s served me well. My scope of role has grown tremendously, allowing me the opportunity to grow my career at a faster pace than my peers and learn at a faster rate than others. It’s also ensured my toolkit has kept me marketable.
Absolutley agree. That’s growing in 2023, meanwhile in 2022 for the past 4 months that sort of fell into my table without much communication or adjustment to comp and hence the frustration and seeking advice from the HR folks here . Thank you kindly for your advice.
