Hello. I'm currently located in NYC but seriously considering moving to Dallas. I'm getting tired of the NYC life style but if I move I fear that I might miss on networking opportunities and possibly faster career progression (?), I'm a financial consultant working remotely and most of my team is in NYC. Please provide your opinion/advice. Thanks in advance!

In DFW right now, you probably will miss out a little bit, but that's the trade off.

No state taxes, cheaper COL makes it worth it imo.

$100k here gets you enough to raise a family comfortably.

It might be overrated imo. Perhaps I’m more of an introvert so I don’t care much about those artificial network, but you can make up for it using many diff ways (like frequent zoom meetings or fly there for certain office events)

I like Dallas

You’re a consultant? I assume you travel and have clients and teams across the US. Living in Dallas won’t slow any career progression down. If you do your work well, it really doesn’t matter where you live these days.

like

Good point. If you’re not trying to go back to NYC to work at a large bank or PE shop it probably doesn’t make much of a difference in the long-term.

I personally would not have moved to DFW if my career and network was not already well established. Things are slower here, so in my opinion not an ideal place to be early on in one’s career. But that’s just my take, it all depends on what you’re looking for. Whatever the case, just make sure you have a spouse locked down before moving lol because the dating scene here is dry

Dir. retired, then VP retired 1 mnth later, new AVP was hired and talked abt moving me up to Mgr and then working to get me to be a Dir bc I lack mgmt exp. on my resume. My promotion is having me skip 2 levels of mgmt but only a 10% increase and now AVP said might still be looking to hire a Dir as soon as our hiring pause is lifted. I also keep getting told that Mgr title will help me grow even if I look for a job elsewhere. Am I right to think I’m getting told to look for another job?

I have a friend who graduated with a CS degree in '17. Since then he's sporadically looked for work in the field but not found any, and has worked as a supervisor. His coding skills have atrophied substantially.

I've been encouraging him to grind leetcode and apply for at least 10 jobs a day, I'm not sure how much hes really doing.

Is there any chance of him finding work? Would taking a bootcamp help him? At this point I'm considering advising him to move on.

How difficult is it to juggle a remote role with a hybrid role?

My current role is hybrid with at least two days a week in office. However, with the potential economic downturn, I'm considering holding on to the role to supplement my income.

I'm new to the overemployed movement, so I'm evaluating the feasibility of holding onto the hybrid role and the remote position.

Looking for recruiting firms to help me find my next project / program management role.

Struggling to determine which firms can help with PM roles AND I'm struggling to get the ones I do find to respond to me. It may have something to do where I'm at in my career - 15+ years of PM experience & director-level roles at my last 2 companies - so more exec level but not quite C-Suite. Have tons of one-off recruiters hitting me up on LinkedIn about contract PM roles but that's not what I want.
