Hello 🐠s! I’m looking into purchasing a home in CT in the next year or so. Currently I work in NYC, I’m coded to the NYC office. When I move to CT, will I owe CT and NY taxes when filing my taxes? Or will they balance each other out? TIA!

Probably married or moving into a cardboard box

In the year of move, you'll be a part year resident, so income is allocated based on source.

After that, CT will credit you tax paid for other states. It may not be full, but it's more or less of a balance.

I live in CT but work out of nyc office. If you travel to the office, you will still pay nyc taxes. But then get a credit on your CT return.

What part of CT are you thinking ?

Ey2, NY has a metropolitan commuter transportation mobility tax. This is not imposed an employees. Individuals that work in NYC are not subject to NYC taxes unless they work for NYC...then they are required to volunteer to pay the tax.

Many many years ago, the NYC tax applied to individuals working within the city, but this was decades ago.

NY adopts a convenience of the employer rule so you will still pay NY taxes if you are working for a NY based company from CT, remotely.

Recently received 80k offer for Amex Gold and 150k offer for Platinum. Currently use CSR for travel and dining, which we will downgrade later this year as wife got CSP for 100k bonus (which we might upgrade to CSR to keep 1.5x redemption). Considering Gold for groceries (family of 4) and potentially for dining over CSP/CSR. With groceries, 4x return will just offset AF. Have no exp with MP. Worth getting gold? Can I later (next month) also get Platinum for bonus for when travel starts again?

Last years rates, anyone could have done well. You didn't have to sell a mortgage, people just applied.

With the market where it is today, what are some of you doing to counter the "rates are too high" comment from buyers?

Hi All,
Really need some input. We have our new construction done by April 2023. Builder is giving us 28,000 credits which can be used towards closing cost and buy lock rate for 6 months from now and giving us the interest rate for 6.75% for 30 years from US bank. But I also spoke to credit union they give us 5 ARM for 5.5% but can lock rate in feb 2023. So should go with the US bank with 6.75% plus incentives or wait till feb 2023 and thn lock rates(us bank doesn’t give us ARM rates).
