Hello! Luckily I have landed an Administrative Support Full Time job in a top university in Canada!
I’m aiming to grow as a HR professional & want to see myself as an HR expert!

I’ve come from a completely different background ( healthcare) but I have always tried to have transferable skills like interpersonal, relationship building skills, public speaking etc.

My question is by accepting this job ( administrative clerk ) am I taking the right step towards HR expert in long term?

Congratulations! You should have an open conversation about this with the hiring manager. Make it clear to them that you are interested in growing into an HR expert and want to be sure you will have the opportunity to grow within the organization. The right place will appreciate your ambition and help you evolve. If they say yes, they will support that, then work hard and offer to take more responsibilities on once you are comfortable with your workload.

Hey everyone, moral issue here. My older brother is struggling with money and his mental health. I’m not so good with the mental health stuff but I do have a Robinhood account that has ~5k in it that I could give him to help him feel more comfortable. I make a tc of about 100k at 25 and he makes 50k working 2 jobs at 32. I can make that 5k back later in life, it would mean more to help him now when he needs it. Thoughts? All comments welcome. NOTE: I did help him find a therapist.

So I am interested in 2 jobs. 1 job is a nicer commute, don’t know the benefits, don’t have an offer but seems like it’s a nicer work environment. In the interim, I have an offer from another organization that has a horrible commute. Everything else is good. it’s been 4 days since I received the offer and I don’t want to accept without knowing what the other organization is willing to offer. I’m waiting to meet other members of the team (possibly 3 more interviews). Any advice?

I underestimated my knowledge and capabilities badly - to the point that I joined a new role two levels below my old role (old team was toxic and I was struggling with severe mental health and esteem issues as a result). We have pelotons, fitness instructors. 1:1 training , group classes , yoga, beginner to advance. a virtual component, provide a robust EAP, and have a focus on mental health offering workshops etc. in recent workshops, employees have requested a weight loss challenge. We have in the past. Internal comms feels using the language “weight loss “ program could trigger and cause harm?! Thoughts?

Have you ever had to decide between what you’re good at vs what you want to do? I’ve always had strong presentation and client skills, so I’ve been put in product management/functional roles. However, I’ve enjoyed working in Data Analytics and wanting to be more technical, however havnt been the best at the technical world. Also getting promoted now to a func.senior role now.

Should I follow my strengths and grow my career as a leader/manager or should I try to pivot into Technical roles more?

We CTE teachers are disproportionately affected by remote learning!
