Came in straight after UG - went to a public target school. I remember the day I interviewed still very clearly where everyone around me was from top private universities and I questioned why I got invited - but was the only one who made it through that day. Doesnt matter where you come from just be prepared.
Undergrad at unremarkable public school, unremarkable GPA, worked at startups part time all through college, unremarkable but consistent internships, startups after college, McKinsey after 2 years. I want to mention that in your interview at McKinsey you are asked about what YOU did wherever you happened to be.
That’s unremarkable. Thanks for sharing :)

Vanderbilt UG, was lackluster in my MBB on campus interviews because of lack of prep, worked at a small tech consulting firm for 1.5 years, and then lateraled over
And BCG didn't event recruit at Vandy! Congrats on making it in

Princeton undergrad, MIT PhD, had absolutely no interest in consulting until I realized I didn’t want to do benchwork for the rest of my career. Spent 3ish months prepping and got in
Went to non-Ivy top 10 undergrad. Was a CS major, did SWE internship at FAANG, but didn’t enjoy being a software engineer (surprisingly a LOT of BA/ASC/ASC like me who interned in SWE prior to joining MBB)

Went to non target public university. Got in direct from school after working my ass off 🙃.
Ivy, after undergrad, but very much underrepresented on campus across gender, race, and major. Everyone makes it out to be so much easier if you go to a target school, which is true when comparing against non/targets. But within target schools, there’s also a ton of competition on campus for these roles (and lots of “feeder” groups and clubs that generally take most of the spots), so I felt a bit like an underdog when I was going through the process a few years back. The important thing is that you bring your best to your interviews and work - what’s on your resume doesn’t matter after you land the interview!
Went to an ivy, and got in straight out of undergrad. Interned in economic consulting before hand but never interned in management consulting.
Aerospace Engineering BSc at top 1 university in my country with 2 years of tech consulting before joining Bain. Studied a bit of case interviews when I was leaving university. Didn't study a case before MBB interviews, focused on previous experience
