Hello! My husband has just graduated medical school, and I’m looking for a nice gift for him ($100-$500). What’s a device, gadget, or thing you’ve received for a milestone and really appreciated?

My brother got me a fancy pen with “ **my name**, CPA” engraved on it after I passed my final CPA exam and that really meant a lot.

I love my Apple Watch and AirPods Pro and those would make great gifts if he doesn’t have them already.

He already got you. He doesn’t need anything else

They’re free for now. No interest no payments, and they count towards PAYE.

A really nice watch! Even if he’s not a watch guy, it’s a good investment piece.

Get him a nice stethoscope. Maybe a Litman 3, they can engrave the metal part.

Something he would never buy for himself, and that will last. I love my AirPods pro but will obviously replace them at some point. A nice pen (Mont Blanc is in your price range), fancy Cufflinks etc last longer. My wife got me a watch for my birthday and I love wearing it everyday and thinking of her.

likehelpful

I’m sorry, but these answers are all so dumb. Watches? Pens? Do people actually want these things! This is the equivalent of “buy your girl flowers and diamonds.” Who actually wants those? Hey him something cool and useful and premium. AirPods or Bose headphones. A cool vintage scooter. A set of annual regal theater subscriptions (better pre pandemic).
These useless vanity pieces are dumb af.

Can’t. My legs are too fat.

A nice pen 🖊

Couple of things and you can pick and choose
1. MacBook
2. Bose noise cancelling headphones
3. New airpods
4.iPad
5. Gaming console
6. Nice decanter if he is into drinking good scotch/whiskey

I ccan think of more if needed!

If he cooks.. how about a really nice knife. I got my husband a Japanese knife - it’s awesome. Or maybe a guitar? Orrr a drone?

like

What kind of knife?

Get a pen or wallet. Something everlasting and he can carry with him everyday. Also for "get a watch" folks - there is no nice watch in that price range.

likehelpful

Good idea. A wallet with his initials embossed (not with ink, just imprinted in the leather) is classy.

I am a clinical research coordinator working in Austin, Texas. I have my Masters in Cell & Molecular Biology and have a year of laboratory research experience.

I’ve been in my position for 5 months now. I make $27 hourly which amounts to about $51,000 yearly. Am I being under paid? Are all coordinator positions hourly? As a laboratory researcher I was salary :(

How do I go about asking for a raise or should I explore other companies or medical schools that have clinical research?

I’ve worked in clinical research in the academic/non profit world for the past five years. I want to transition to a role in pharma or a CRO, but haven’t been successful yet because I don’t have industry experience. Does anyone know of any CROs/pharma companies that are willing to hire someone with research expertise from an academic medical center rather than already in industry? Thanks!

I’m at the point of implosion mentally. Thinking of taking a stress leave but (1) not sure if that qualifies as a medical leave (2) if it does, NY law caps the pay at like a fraction of what I make. I don’t care to get my full income, and I’m ok taking a hit but I’d like to at least be able to cover some living costs while I do. That said, open enrollment is coming up. Does adding supplemental short term disability cover things like mental health leaves of absence?

I think he would like the Bourne series, but he saw all the movies so he's not interested, but something similar.
