Have an ill parent (1 year recovered from a severe heart attack) who has really been super mean/verbally abusive recently to both me and my siblings e.g. mood swings, focusing on our deficiencies, putting my sister down for her new job, etc. Pretty traditional background so not sure we can suggest therapy/counseling for them to get their emotions regulated, and I feel bad being angry w them given their health. Anyone been through something similar/have any advice? Thanks so much.

It looks like we won’t be returning to traveling at least in the next 6 months, over a year in my project. Sick of being in a tiny apartment in NYC. Lease is ending March 15th. Thinking of looking for a possible place (1BR) preferably close to the beach to spend at least the summer that’s not insanely far from NYC where I can return without it being cross country. Any suggestions of where to look? Good idea?

Tore my ACL this week and had surgery and am planning on using short term disability for the next 4 weeks. Does anyone know what will happen if I decide to not return to the firm at the end of the short term disability leave? Any consequences for that? Just came across a startup that takes medical bills from patients and allows them to set up a payment plan with 0 interest and 0 fees to pay down their medical expenses.

The startup makes their money by negotiating with providers a upfront cash discount and the startup fronts the $ it then collects from patients. Does this work? Thoughts?

Looking for advice re maternity leave. About a year ago I moved to a new state but have continued working for the same small firm remotely. Everything is basically the same, except I am not doing any in-person hearings, depos, meetings, etc. Also, we changed my pay structure so I am now paid a percentage of everything I bill, which has turned out to be a good bit more than what I was making before on a set salary. That, coupled with the flexibility to generally work whenever I want (cont below)
