There is hope! I finished the interview process at a company and right when they were checking references they went on a hiring freeze. A month later I got contacted again with them extending me an offer! First day was this Monday :)
Thanks for showing me a silver lining! I am a bit depressed because it took 5 technical rounds to reach here and then this happened!
5 rounds of interviewing, verbal offer, then “never mind, we’re in a hiring freeze”. Can anyone else see the blatant disregard?
Use these interviews to hone your skills
We're actively hiring Developers and we are a very successful tech company. Oracle is a competitor. If you're interested, message me.
Tbh, freeze is gonna stay for a while. I’d suggest you to move on.
ok, thanks!
Is it NetSuite? If so it'll take quite a while lol I used to work there... For me to get a formal letter it took almost a month!
Oh shit I just saw on another forum! Sorry dude ☹️ NetSuite is under Oracle so it's why I thought NetSuite lol regardless though that's unfortunate... Hopefully you get a better offer elsewhere
Hello! At Oracle, they're now in the middle of Q2. If you can, wait to the beginning of december to see if the hiring freeze has been lifted. If the hiring manager said that they will contact you and they gave a verbal offer, then most probably they will contact you again. I am a former Oracle employee.
Thank you so much for sharing the insights! Really means alot ! I will keep updating the thread to keep you all informed about the progress (if any).
Either way you're advised to move on. Keep looking and interviewing till you set a start date. We're in uncertain times and big names retracted many offers lately.
Same happened to me 10 years back!. But they came back to me after hiring freeze and offered and I also joined them. May be they will get back later
So. Why work for a company that has no regard at all for you and is so hamstrung by process? Does anyone not see the issue here? IF this isn't a huge red flag then really what is? You said you went through multiple technical rounds and passed all of them. And the final thing in the way was a nothing to do with you. Well...then what do you think will happen with normal work there? I guess that's me and why I have stayed away from intensely vertically organized companies.
Recently i have also faced same thing from oracle
I completely feel ya ! have moved on with the fact that Oracle was not is my destiny and I would suggest the same to you. Wishing you luck for you job search!
There's always a chance, but with the way tech stocks are going right now I'd hedge my bet and try to find another offer elsewhere.
Happened to me as well 4 months and waiting.
I am so sorry this happened to you, you may want to ask the hiring manager if they can hire you as a contractor till the freeze is over if this is of interest.
This happened to me when I made an offer to someone and a freeze happened AFTER the candidates accepted and gave notice to his current company. I could not believe a company, my company could do that to anyone - especially after they had accepted. The guy would be out of work as he gave notice. In his case, I was able to get contractor funds to have him come on board and transition him once the freeze was over but I never really forgave HR… this was just beyond belief to do after an offer is accepted.
Hello,
in my own personal experience, you didn't miss anything.
I made some open source contributions and managed to get in touch with a hiring manager last year. They took ages to get back to me, even due to the fact that it was summer and many were on hols. In the meantime I accepted an offer from Adobe. They called me back and the offer was way lower so I stayed at Adobe.
This year, I tried to apply with Oracle for a position in a different country and the VP told me that because I did not accept their offer last year he was pissed off.
From what I am hearing, the freezes are for firing the expensive people and redistributing team members to other efforts. Hopefully you'll still get an offer. Congrats on at least having that offer even if it was delayed. Here's positive energy in hopes you get it post freeze
I hope they get back to me. Thanks for the positive vibes.
My recommendation is to keep looking. Hiring freezes can take a long time.
YES! There is hope. I went through the same thing before working at HP, and it took a year but then they came to me (2009) and asked me if I still wanted the job. They never even interviewed anyone else, just gave me an offer since I had gotten so close to the job offer prior.
Same happened to me 10 years ago :/
I would hope for the best but expect the worse and keep looking.
