Think of stocks as a piece of ownership in a company. Think of ETFs and mutual funds as you pooling together a bunch of money with a ton of other people to buy a bunch of pieces of a bunch of different companies in order to spread out risk.
A long while back ETFs and mutual funds were more different but these days they’re more similar. But essentially the difference is how they’re traded. ETFs are traded whenever, even all throughout the day, just like a stock. Mutual funds are only valued once every day, at the end of trading.
You can read more into all this, and I highly recommend that you do as you get started. Good reading sources include Investopedia, The Balance, Bogleheads, and more.

In addition to what PWC1 said, Mutual funds are more likely to allow the purchase of partial shares and you can usually do automatic periodic purchases (I.e. buy $500/month automatically). ETFs usually have a very slightly lower expense ratio. ETFs are easier to move from one brokerage to another. I don’t know about Fidelity but Vanguard allows a one way non taxable conversion from Mutual Funds to equivalent ETF.
