Having been a modeling DS, I can't imagine why I'd outsource exploratory analysis. Anyone seen a team like this before?

I am currently working as a Data Science Analyst in Amex and would like to make a switch to Fraud detection/Credit risk modelling in future.(not in a hurry but would like to start preparing for the same)
How should I go about preparing for it? Is MBA the only course?

Is ~1 year too soon to ask for this kind of promotion? Last year I made a career switch from a consulting mgr to product mgmt at a series A startup. As most career switches go, I took a bit of a salary cut from 190k to 175k. Founders know this too. It’s a small amount in the grand scheme of things, but after almost a year later, I’m finding myself pretty good at my job and led engineers to ship impactful things, and feel I deserve a promotion & a raise. I wanna ask for $190/200k (15-25k raise).
