Hello there. HR (large hospital) contacted me with my new position’s salary offer. I would like to counter it. You should be able to negotiate off those aspects; I know plenty of people who have done so successfully. Your compensation should consider everything you bring to the table, merit, skills, and certifications included.

I think you should absolutely negotiate. You said it best, you got the job based on those things, so your salary should reflect that. I don't think that's asking for too much, and it's a good attitude to have. Remind them of your value and start the process, you deserve what you're worth!

Negotiate even if you think you’re getting a fair wage!

Always negotiate. This is my number one rule. You can always ask for more.

I did and they budged a little. Thanks for the reply!

Anyone have any advice or insight on interviewing for a GS General Attorney position? I’m really excited and working to prepare for an interview I’ve been offered. I’m a litigation junior associate in private practice now, but have a long academic background in international trade, policy, and security.
