Hi Everyone,
I just received an offer to work as an software sales representative (SDR) for IBMs Z systems. I'm coming as a sales engineer in the cloud security space. Can anyone advise me on whether Z systems are something worth going into? Also what do the growth opportunities look like at IBM? Is there opportunity for lateral movement onto other teams? Not too sure how I feel about working on mainframes (Z systems) but they keep pitching hybrid cloud to me. IBM

“Any company would be lucky to have me” might be your problem
Not sure how can that be my problem, I just know my worth that’s all… but thanks for your comment.
Same with me at Amazon and Deloitte haha
How often are you applying? I can’t speak to Tesla specifically, but some companies will only review 1-2 applications from the same person per year. Anything past that goes straight to the “no” pile.
Wow did not know that, I have applied several times within the same years. Thanks for the tip!!
Have you tried updating your resume? Incorporating key terms from the job description into your resume? Pretty sure nowadays, when folks applies, their resume goes through a software. If there are no matches/similarities, they are not gonna move on to the next steps.
I am starting to do that to see if I get any luck 🙏🏼
Applying? Don’t. Network first.
With what LinkedIn 😂

Get someone to look over your resume. Most times the resume can’t get past the ATS system where an automatic rejection happens. Formatting and key words are essential.
Thanks!!
I would recommend connecting with someone on here or LinkedIn that would give you an internal reference. That should at least get your resume looked at by a human.
Best of luck!
Thanks!! 🙏🏼

Are you located where the roles are?
Locals often have the advantage.
Education < Accomplishments < Network
Yeah that can be the case too… I have been applying to remote roles but sometimes is remote but in a specific city.
Definitely customize your resume to every role.
In my very similar experience with this, it is no longer about what you know or how well you can do the job but more about who you know and how well you can answer the "tell me about a time" questions if you do make it to an interview. I have interviewed for at least 5 different positions at my current job and am very qualified for all of them but still no luck because I don't brown nose and I also am too honest with the questions. Nowadays its all about knowing how to answer the interview questions, our work ethics and experience do not seem to matter at all. Just my experiences and opinion.
