Hello! We are thinking of moving to an unlimited PTO policy, but I would love to gain a sense of this type of policy impacts our non exempt workers? So far, I gather we cannot offer unlimited to non exempt staff. Any guidance is appreciated.

We offer unlimited PTO for both exempt and non exempt.

What we do, however, is after 10 days or 15 days, VP approval is required. Also, anything more than 10 consecutive days requires VP approval as well.

This lessens the likeliness of people abusing it, exempt or non-exempt.

I’m yet to see anyone to abuse unlimited PTO policy. However, +1 to what Talent Acquisition Specialist said. And statistically people take less PTO when they are on unlimited policy.

We only have unlimited PTO for executives reporting to our CEO. We are in CA and it can get tricky when dealing with paid sick leave laws and leave of absences. If you do it then you should have something in your handbook that states if you are on a leave of absence then your unlimited PTO is limited to a certain number of weeks. Check with legal counsel on the best way to do this. If you have a call center environment then you can expect abuse so have guidelines in place for that.

Thank you. We do not have a call center and are really trying to offer this cool perk to all staff. We are based in NY and eventually will follow the same protocol and tracking procedures for PTO request as well as hourly workers entering their time worked or PTO in the time clock system.

Unlimited PTO will not be applicable to those on FMLA though and the existing policy we have in place with remain the same. I think this makes sense.

I’m a new associate to a T&E group, partner goes away on vacation and leaves me with a 706 to review and sign. The family is very wealthy. Decedent married for 60 years. Partner says it’s “just a DSUE election, decedent was ill for years, no assets.” Provides no records. Not even an admission the decedent owned a toothbrush. So I looked up the decedent’s home - it’s a joint asset. Partner was “surprised”, and still insists “no other assets”. I found file references to art and antiques.

Is there a good way to take PTO when you’re the only Consultant on a project?
My firms staffs very lean (LOL) so I’m usually the only non-partner resource on a project. If I take a day off the project stops moving, so I’m always supremely stressed on pto and/or work for at least part of it.

I am lateraling. My start date is Sept. 7. I was planning on giving my current firm notice on Aug. 2 so my last day would be Aug. 13 and I would have a few weeks off before starting the new gig. Was just perusing the employee handbook of my current firm and found that the separation policy requires at least 4 weeks’ notice. I’ve never heard of this before, and I’m at a loss as to what I should do. I don’t want to lose the time off but don’t want to lose benefits for Aug. either.

I did a quick estimation and there’s a possibility that the egg retrieval day might be in the end of my client project. The difficulty is that you don’t know which day it is until maybe 2or3 days ahead. How do you guys handle this last-minute PTO day? Taking the whole week off doesn’t make sense either since it’s end the of project. Thank you!

What does it mean when a partner encourages a 1st year to usurp a mid-level's client relationship? Mid worked for a year to build this relationship and then when he took a vacation the partner gave away the client's work, and kept giving it to that 1st year after he returned to office. Should he gently protest?

My vacation turned into a staycation. Hubby's boss never told him that he was also going to be out this week even when hubby asked for the time off. They can't have the #1 and #2 at the company gone at the same time. No longer upset. Still sending kiddo to daycare. My house is clean. I'm exercising. I'm signed up for lesson for a new activity. I broke out my rigid heddle loom. I am meditating. This is awesome.

Supervisor said I couldn’t have week off for vacation this summer bc another coworker of higher seniority asked off the same week and two people can’t go on vacation at the same time because of staffing. But this coworker that asked off works different shift than me? He works 1st shift I work second. We have a total of 8 workers and no more than 4 work a day. can easily be covered. This has never been a problem until this year (we got a new supervisor). we’re used to being short staffed anyway
