Hello!

I'm asking for help as I'm interested in switching to Solutions Engineering from a Software Engineering background.

How do I make the switch?

Do you have any materials to suggest that could help to land a job as a Solutions Engineer?

Thanks a lot!

First off, what makes you want to make the switch?

Secondly, I’d start by seeing if your current company has an SE that you can shadow on a demo or two. See how they approach the customer, discovery, and objection handling. If you really enjoy it, I’d start by looking into the challenger sales method and see how a sales cycle is run. Really there is no right way to land an SE job. Some SE’s are very technical, some are very focused on the business challenges. But one thing they all have in common, they love the products they sell. So, make sure you find a company your passionate about!

Would love to know - do you guys typically see a big difference between Solutions Consultants versus Solutions Engineers? Inherently one sounds more technical than the other, but would love your take.

Additionally, what typical career paths do you see for SC/SEs to grow into? Ideally a path that leads to a lot of money (currently making just south of $200k)

Thanks!

I have 5 years of experience in IT/Cybersecurity. I wanted to make a move to be a Security Sales Engineer, based on a job description and a hiring manager reaching out to me via LinkedIn. This seems like a role I can leverage my knowledge as sort of a consultant for clients. The only thing I know about potential compensation is base salary would be 70% of the total income and the rest commissions. Glassdoor hasn't helped much. What's a good starting point for salary expectations?

Hey All. I had my 2nd round interviews for a Lead Solution Engineer role at Salesforce on Monday (2 days ago). It was w/ 2 separate SEs, and I thought both interviews went very well. Have yet to hear from the recruiter, though, which seems odd. Especially given how responsive the recruiter's been prior to this.

Is that normal? Do I just need to be patient or should I mentally prepare for a rejection? Thanks!

I’ve been with my company for 5 years and have never asked for a raise, I’ve accepted annual review we get without question. I’ve now realised I’m getting paid significantly less than the market rate. I’m getting job offers with almost 40% increase. I know my male peers at my company get paid significantly more than me. I love my job and my company but I don’t know how to ask for a raise 🙈 I know I deserve it but don’t know how to ask! Any guidance please ?

Hey everyone! I recently graduated this past December and started my current role January 24th. Just this morning I had a recruiter from Meta reach back out to me about a role I applied too last month. Should i schedule an interview with the recruiter? What if it goes well? Would it look bad if I quit my current position to take this role if I end up getting an offer? One reason I would want to switch is because the pay would most likely be a lot higher at Meta then in my current position.
