Helloooooo my fellow EA Fishiesss!! Nothing crazy, just curious conversation for others in the realm of all things EA. What does your Light day of duties consist of vs your OMG busy day, and what industry are you in? What special projects have you dived into or been pulled into? What do you love? What do you hate? Happy Wednesday y’all!

I’m a first year EA for the CEO of a capital management firm. On a light day I always check my execs calendar for meetings, contact organisers for any materials needed prior, make sure there are no calendar conflicts for the week or the day since the can pop up over night, I do communications to other business partners, clients, investors and organise meetings, board meetings etc. I usually have a project to work on, I’m also involved in marketing as it’s a small company and I have some experience in that area. I edit and correct presentations on occasion.

To be honest there really isn’t any day that’s repetitive. We basically multi task all day and have a lot of head down time to work in peace.

I also plan trips, double check itineraries, plan company parties, design and create holiday cards and marketing collateral. I manage the socials and company website as well and do updates, post news articles we are featured in.

I work with an external PR team on articles and press pieces on the company, our executives etc. and then I push those out on all of
Our channels.

So you can see, there are so many things we do and it’s a mix of all of these at any given moment. These are my core responsibilities.

I also manage the physical office location, check mail and distribute via email to the correct department. Stock the office, decorate and plan team building events.

I forgot, I also choose restaurants for my ceo to meet for business discussions.

I had to familiarise myself with NYC to orchestrate a path of appointments from one end of the city to another and organise with each individual.

I join Monday weekly meetings with the partners as well, just so I know everything that’s going on in the company.

I love my job. I used to be an account executive and I hated it.

We have our hands in everything.

Light days i do admin work. Expenses, network tracker updates, inbox deep cleaning for my GP.

Busy days are scheduling mayhem, rescheduling mayhem, meeting with my GPS team to help them brainstorm and build next gen of our products or review presentations and provide feedback, having to play confidant to my GP’s team when they need to vent or help them create a strategy for working with my boss, etc etc.

I’ve helped create reporting structures for our CRM, spearheaded our entire teams two night and three day offsite for 70+ people, negotiate and book private venues for client dinners across the US, assist with hiring other EAs and conducting interviews, as well as other random projects that get thrown onto my plate.

I love project management. I hate the “ABC” of admin work (like if i only did scheduling, travel, and expenses i would quit so fast).

The funniest part about me being an admin is i am more “organized chaos” then a super organized individual hahaha. But i make my own chaotic system work for me so it all works out.

I’m in Private Equity. Fast paced no breaks and rarely any “coasting” days.

OMG days: flight cancellations, multiple meeting changes, multiple scheduling calls. Light days - work on longer term projects, clear out inbox, update contacts, (seasonal) work on holiday card and gift lists for execs. All days: check calendar for changes; track flights and car services, expenses. Special projects: managing LinkedIn profile; serving as an expert in certain company-wide platforms

I simply thought I was crazed 😂 I did an industry jump, from oil and gas to biomedical. C-suite support in both. I wanted to see if there were any happenings out there that may be exciting to suggest or dive into, outside of my “typical” days-is any day ever typical? Lol but that’s definitely the exciting part.

Geez! The oil and gas industry is in pure chaos. Well, at least based on my experience. Haha

Actual factuals lol

What are some subtle red flags to pass on working for a company/team?

One example was a panel of interviewers at a top tech company within FAANG (is it MAANG now?) constantly rubbing their temples in a stressful manner when talking about their day to day… Another was an interviewer telling me that the leader disregards other’s calendars, senior or not, because they should trust that whatever meeting she has is important… so thoughts?

Anybody here work in Canada? Specifically Vancouver? The cost of living here is outrageous, and I feel like I don't have a fair compensation. I'm currently making $75k with a $5k bonus as an EA with 6+ years experience, and 5+ years experience in my company's industry. Our company doesn't give out yearly inflation raises, so I feel like I'm falling behind. Is this fair, or should I be going after more? Can anyone in Vancouver, Seattle, Canada etc. shed some light on their salary?

Hi fishes 🐟

Can someone shed insight on what is a good salary range for an EA (me) who supports CEO, COO, Legal Counsel (1 person) and HR Director. And also serve as office manager - handle all the logistics of managing inventory for office supplies, kitchen ( coffee, etc) as well as any issues that may come up- a/c issues, issues with cleaning staff, building issues etc. also handle travel bookings for all the company- this alone is a FT job. The travel got added 3 months after I started. TY.

EA to two MDs in PE. $125k base, $20k min. bonus (this year got $40k), 100% match on 401k, full health insurance covered, able to invest in the fund, and receive carried interest at the discretion of the partners (usually ~$2,500/yr)
