Help a paranoid Jr associate out. Been at my firm for two months and my hours are abysmal. Horrible. I'm ashamed to admit but they're under 60. I had COVID beginning of this month. Last month I had 72 hours. They're not firing me, right? Be nice, I'm new to all this.

They're not firing you. You just started, you were sick, it's Q1. Things will pick up, just try to enjoy the down time.

like

My first two months starting out I billed 10 and 30 hours respectively. I did a shit ton of CLE courses, took on pro Bono matters and enjoyed the downtime. Unless you’re saying no to stuff when you clearly have time, no one is firing you for a few slow months.

like

I'm a first year and have been super slow for 3 months.

I think I had fewer hours than that over the first two months at my firm. It takes time to get staffed on matters. Everybody at the firm is aware of that.

like

THANK YOU. I feel way better.

like

You can completely relax. No one expects you to have normal hours yet and everyone knows none of this is your fault.

Seriously. It is okay and you are not in any kind of trouble whatsoever.

like

hell no they ain’t firing you

like

You have nothing to worry about. Went through this same thing last year and review was fantastic.

like

I had less than that in my first two months and had no problem making up the hours by the end of the year.

like

No one gets fired for low hours in their first year. You just won’t get a bonus. It’s fine

OP are you me? Paranoia is real! But grateful for the comments on this thread 😇

You’ll probably get fired but you’ll pick up another job at a suburban law firm doing personal injury cases.

Sometimes I am envious of other positions unrelated to design. Portfolios are tough, time consuming, and expensive! I’ve invested over half a k in the last two years fixing and redesigning my portfolio website, and that doesn’t include the time I put into it!

I wouldn’t change my profession in a heart beat but odd how it feels like we are the only group of professionals that has to invest money just to present our work.
