I just got an email from a recruiter from Google!
Omgomgomgomg
He said that the position is in the Bay Area or New York. I haven’t replied the email. I don’t think we can move to those cities, but I don’t want to lose this opportunity. Does anyone know if Google does remote jobs within US?

Ah man. As a man I hate that you even have to think this way. Obviously they can't legally not pass your probation for being pregnant, but there are some d!cks in this industry. To mitigate the d!cks I would first try and have a mini review with your line manager - ask how it's going and if they have anything they want you to focus on - this makes you look proactive and get them to put it in an e-mail or you can label down what was said in the meeting in an e-mail. Then I would tell them as soon as you can after.
(This e-mail chain just backs you up a bit and lets you know where you stand)
As a manager I want as much notice as possible - the freelance market is good right now so I could find a replacement for your maternity leave. But as a manager I hired you for a reason above others. If it is your dream job - tell your manager and be honest, and if they pull shady crap it's not your dream job.
But ultimately your having a kid - congrats and that's amazing! Told from a man's prospective so of course could be completely wrong.
This is great advice thank you. I’m heading up the dept and part of the leadership team so this is why I’m nervous - I’m not sure that it is as simple as hiring a freelancer to cover. Or that my boss will see it as such. But we did talk about the fact I wanted to stay in the new role for a long time and that I wanted to really find a ‘home’ after some freelance stints for me, so hopefully he’ll still realise I’m in it for the long haul. I really appreciate you taking the time to answer - you sound like a great boss 💪🏻
First congratulations!!
I wish I could offer some advice, just came to suggest the Women in Advertising bowl could be helpful to post this in if you haven't already. There's so many threads about this unfortunately, you're not alone in this!
Thank you. I put it on here because I wanted a UK steer - I know things in the US are different with regard to maternity leave etc. But definitely worth getting a POV from other women who’ve been in the same position! 💕
When I was pregnant, I started showing almost immediately, but wasn’t ready to tell anyone yet. It’s all about flowy dresses and tunics... Don’t worry, no one will comment on the size of your stomach - especially after a year plus of wfh and pandemic snacking.
On the other hand, it might be beneficial to tell your manager early in case you feel tired or nauseous and need a break some days. You’ll also have doctors appointments to go to, so it is quite nice to have someone at work who knows.
Feel free to DM if you want 😊 and congratulations!!!
Thank you so much! I’ve actually been OK and being at home is hugely beneficial - lunchtime lie downs will be hugely missed when we return to the office! I’ve managed to schedule all my appointments outside of working hours so far so that’s been handy. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
