Thinking of leaving audit after my second busy season . My main interest in accounting was always the forensic line but got recruited for audit. Now I feel this is the best time to transition. Any advice for someone who wants to start with CPE route instead of CPA (did it a couple of time and did not pass) seeing it as a sign to go for my main interest. Also do I look for position as senior or just Associate. PwC EY KPMG Deloitte

Don’t panic - what’s the worst that happens? They come back and say they can’t up the offer. You will still have an option. Don’t reach out until the recruiter comes back to you, as you don’t want to sound desperate nor fickle minded. Congrats on the job in advance!
Its really a reasonable ask. Employers respect people who know their worth. Getting into a lower salary may just put you different territory - even responsibilities.
Don't stress. You haven't asked for crazy$$$, worst case they'll say they can't increase to 85k and offer stays at $80k.
Recruiters also know that candidates always try to negotiate, so they never throw the high-end of salary range for that job. My guess is that they accept your counter offer. Good luck!

Tell us some numbers: current comp, expected comp, offered comp…
Omg that raise is abysmal
It’s not about your individual expenses (rent, utilities, etc.) but your value in the market place. The market is hot right now for talent so they’ll probably be okay with 85K. If the recruiter says no just take the offer as-is if you really like it. Asking for more is an expected part of the process so totally understandable- no need to justify.
