If you are talking to senior people at the agency, ask them to connect you directly with hiring managers. The hiring managers can then speak with you and if they're interested, they can reach out to the recruiter and get it going for you. Referrals are nice but often they will point you to the recruiter or HR, and if that person is really busy, it could get lost. If a hiring manager wants you, they can help move it along.

Try to get in touch with a more senior creative at the agency. If they like your book they’ll take a chat with you usually — at least if you reach out to a few then at least one will. Getting a referral bumps you right to the top of that recruiter’s (genuinely) busy schedule and also proves you are motivated to work there.
Thank you so much for the help! I’ve been chatting with a few senior creatives, group heads etc; they’re actually the ones who connected me with the recruiter. They’ve communicated that they really like my book, so I’ll circle back with them, but will also see if I can find a few more to speak with. Thanks again!
Directly contact the most senior executive in the department that you would be working for. Tell them why they’re your dream employer, what pain point you can solve and the names of the current employees who can vouch for you.
