I’d stop breastfeeding or pumping whenever you’re ready, and start giving just formula in bottles. If you’re looking to cut out bottles, gradually reduce the amount he has over time, and then offer a zippy cup of cow’s milk instead.
For what it’s worth, I wouldn’t worry about how long it takes to transition. We raised our first in France, and you give bottles with formula until they are nearly three years old there! My son did the same and he’s super healthy and a great eater now.

I am looking for transitioning out of bottles. The kid drinks cows milk and water in sippy cups, it’s just breast milk or formula in bottles that I am not able to wean out of. He absolutely demands formula or breast milk in bottle before his naps and throws away sippy cups if we give him that…

My first didn’t wean from baby bottles until closer to 15 months, he just refused. He did what sounds similar to you - water and non-breastmilk milk (Ripple in our case) in sippy/straw cups and breastmilk from bottles. If you want to stop breastfeeding, I’d honestly just give cow’s milk in the bottle for a bit. Once he started taking Ripple more reliably out of sippy cups we dropped bottles entirely.

I think of open cups more as skill development rather than feeding development - it’s good to know how to do it, but even I don’t drink out of an open cup all the time.
At one year we flipped to warmed cows milk in bottle at wake up and bedtime. At 15 months we flipped to warmed cows milk in sippy cup (munchkin 360). Baby declined the sippy for a few days before realizing it was her only option.

I might try munchkin 360 if that works. We are also working towards reducing his milk intake by 15 months to morning and night but looking at our current situation it’s a challenge to cut down 2 feeds before his naps.

Following solid starts, we give cows milk and water only in weighted straw cups and never in his bottle. But he demands breast milk and formula in his bottles in particular after he wakes from his naps. We try to limit his bottle feeds to 4 oz per feed and before naps and nighttime, and we started this about 3 weeks ago. I am not sure if this is transition problem or I am doing something wrong. I try to follow solids starts schedule for 12 to 15 months but with daycare, some tweaks are necessary…
