Hi Fishes, I have offers from PwC(risk advisory) and IBM(app development). Thing is that the PwC joining is at Kolkata location but I don't want to go there and stay. There is not much difference between the offers in terms of package(10 & 10.4). Can I ask PwC to provide WFH or change my office location for this? Deloitte EY PwC KPMG

No ones asked the most important question yet - do you have kids? Or do you plan on having them in the next 5 years? If you answered yes to either, option A all the way. You will need every dollar you can get, and ASAP.
Right now, no, but possibly in the future. This helps 🙏 thanks!

Lol at all the people who are comparing the wages offered to OP with those of their local (likely higher COL) area. Texas wages are lower than in some other states because you have to factor in the inexpensive real estate, no state income tax, and cheaper living expenses.
According to Nerdwallet, making $55k in Austin is akin to $138k in Manhattan. These numbers are likely overestimated but still $55k in Texas is definitely not a fast food wage. It’s a very livable wage and many people make less than that in the state of Texas.

When you were disparaging comparisons to fast food the OP had not yet clarified it was a support role and had (inadvertently) implied a managerial role (as you can see from all the other comments about managing). The comparison was to a salary almost double. The 98K +40 equity offer is also apparently not managerial but total comp is within reason for managerial salary level expectations, even in Texas.
No one is disputing Texas wages are lower.

Neither. Keep looking

Take it and keep looking
Take A, but continue looking

If you choose option B, will you live in a LCOL area ? 55k is very low for any managerial job in my opinion. What are the growth and exit opportunities like for each job ?

I’d just choose A and keep looking. Is it imperative to leave current job?

Take offer A and use it to get a better job in a year
To clarify, these offers are for mid-senior titles, not manager. Shouldn’t have used the word managing, but he’ll be providing IT level 2 support.
Thank you everyone for your help, we definitely agree that we need to negotiate company B’s offer for something better, but it’ll never match company A.
Perhaps leveraging A for something better in a year or so may be the best route…
Update: he was able to negotiate company B to 70k and went with his gut instinct to take that offer! Now we’re free men and able to work anywhere!! Super happy with his decision 😌

I would choose A
Choose peace.

Managing or supporting? If scope of control is 5+ ppl, this isn't even close to acceptable.

Idk alot about IT, but if this is tier 1 support only, I'd think option A would be the best. The support ratio seems super low, which means you could highlight that to supervisors and identify potential fixes (I.e., increase capacity via staffing, increase efficiency via systems/process). Would be a lot of work, but easy-ish way to make a name for yourself and potentially get some huge wins on the resume.
If your husband is still in the learning phase, having a team around him will be incredibly important, so B would be better.
How much experience does your husband have? If he has a lot of experience then I would choose company B under the assumption that he can add immediate value and move up fast and make more money and increase title. If he still needs experience then go with company A.

Yea I'd flip this, you won't learn in role A. You need to know what you're doing if you have little to no support.
What kind of IT job is this lol? Never seen so bad comp. They both suck. He should keep looking
98 in Texas is probably pretty good. Depending on the title/roll
Let me guess... the first job is Amazon
Take B if it’s a well known brand. He can leverage & keep interviewing since it’s remote. Is this after negotiations? He can easily push to 60-65k which is much more liveable lol.
Can you really justify the 78% comp difference +40k equity. If you're willing to pay $43k for peace of mind go for it.
It all comes down to what he values! A peaceful job might give him more energy and confidence to pursue the next thing that would pay better. If your family needs good money ASAP (and you consider this good money) then consider that this isn’t the only option out there. You can have peace and money! It doesn’t have to be one or the other.

B is a joke - that’s fast food “manager” type wages. No-one should be paying that little in IT for a manger role in the US. That’s pay designed to entrap an H1-B or transition the work to offshore.
If he can’t be patient for other offers, take A and leverage it into a new role elsewhere a year from now.
It depends on how long he would last, and how long it would take to find a better offer.
98k + 40k equity is a good starting point for the next negotiation. 55k isn't so much.
