Some students need that sensory input. Gum is an option but some kids swallow it or can’t handle that. They make necklaces kids can chew on and one of my students has a chew that goes on the end of his pencil.
So I already do alternative seating in my room and LOVE it! This years class seems to like the tables more than other areas though. My one chewer is the worst when he is doing a write the room activity. I truly think it’s a thinking thing not so much sensory seeking behavior in itself
You need to give them something to chew on. Ex ~ gum or a chewy thing
Have you brought this up with parents?
