I'm in the DC area too. Unless you have a PhD to go with your 1 year of experience, if you're making a dime over $90k you're doing better than market. Doesn't hurt to ask for more, but don't get your hopes up.
Thanks for the feedback!
Also, because data science is broad and everyone does different things, my work is primarily concentrated on custom ML development, dev on custom DS based optimization algorithms, R&D, data viz, and decision support toolsets that include all previous mentioned stuff. Hope this helps for context
Absolutely feel free to DM me

Cap1 has data scientists in Richmond and the Glassdoor on them is pretty accurate, so I'd take a look. I think 95-105k is probably the sweet spot
Ok cool. Should have asked about scaling for COL...not really looking to relocate

What kind of clients and tech are you working with now? What role are you playing on projects?
Pretty standard stack dev wise. Python, VBA, Excel, JS (and accompanying JS viz libraries), Plotly, power bi, Tableau, etc. To your second question, a bulk of my work has been from scratch dev...building capabilities from the ground up using the underlying math/stat theory behind ML/DS for predictive analytics and general optimization. Very rarely if ever getting to use prebuilt sklearn packages in actual practice. Also been doing solo dev for over half the time probably delivering decision support toolsets on my own.
What’s your education background and what are you at now? I’m thinking you should be aiming over 100K for sure.
Makes sense. Thanks for the help!
