Help! There is an assistant that works in my building that is downright rude and demeaning to both staff and students alike. She yells at us for bringing our kids to lunch right on time (when our 30 min lunch begins as well). She always complains about literally everything! We can make complaints for a team of staff and admin to try to correct, but cannot name specific people. I know for a fact a parent has already made 2 complaints this year, but I feel like more has to be brought up.

Hey, parents making complaints is a GREAT start! If they'll listen to anyone, they'll listen to parents. If those keep rolling in, action will most likely be taken.

That's what I'm hoping!

Change the perspective for them. Check-in with them. Ask how they are doing? Share you seem a bit off when we bring the kids to you, are you alright? The direct approach will make a world of difference and shows them that we are all in this together!!

You are a teacher. I would address this with her. If 20 years in education has taught me anything was that I was a push over and let people take advantage of me. I don’t anymore. I am polite but direct. I had a principal talk me into eating with my class unpaid. Eventually I stuck up for myself and said I will do it if you pay me, otherwise I am taking my contracted lunch. They found another solution.

I am really tired and I think I’m burning out. I love my job, my account, and my team (for the most part). Working from home with 2 kids didn’t really hit me until I had to start picking up slack at work. I had found a good balance. But now I find I’m short with my older kid, house chores have gone undone, or work suffers. I had a review recently and I’m well received but the window for a raise or promotion has passed and they will look into it during the next open window (continued)

I’m 27 and feel like I’m falling behind. Everyone is either getting engaged, married, buying a house, or having a baby. Essentially moving on, and I’m not sure what to do. I feel like wallowing in pity, but I know if I want something I should work towards it instead of complaining. I just feel so lost, and wanted to vent.

I found out today that my employer doesn’t offer any paid parental leave (maternity or paternity). This isn’t a major issue now, but my wife and I are planning on trying in a year or so from now. How many other employers don’t offer any paid leave at all? Coming from public accounting this seemed outrageous to me, but curious to see what other companies are like.

We are a first generation immigrant, working couple in our 30’s with a one year old baby. Have always lived in the city and work in the financial district. We have outgrown our 2bedroom condo on UES and are feeling the need for more space, especially for the kid. What are some of the better NYC suburbs for young families? Looking for an easy commute into the city, safe place with good schools and happening vibe with dining options, bars etc. Just starting our research, so any info is welcome!

Hi ladies! I would love your advice! I got engaged this weekend and have been receiving a lot of questions regarding the date, venue, etc. I want to take a few weeks to enjoy the engagement glow and be present with my fiancé, but I am concerned because my future mother in law is already very involved (her daughter was married 2 years ago & she planned the entire wedding). I want her input, but I also want to honor my mom because she wants to help too. What tasks did you assign your MIL to help?

I am about to return to work after maternity leave. I have a 4 month old and a two year old. Our daycare is periodically closing due to COVID. We don’t have family nearby to help when daycare closes and I’ll be headed into busy season upon my return. I’m already on a reduced schedule. No one else I know is in my shoes in my group/office at EY. How have your families in similar situations dealt with this? I feel like I’ll be very unreliable as we head into the busy season.
