Help!
There is an assistant that works in my building that is downright rude and demeaning to both staff and students alike.
She yells at us for bringing our kids to lunch right on time (when our 30 min lunch begins as well).
She always complains about literally everything!
We can make complaints for a team of staff and admin to try to correct, but cannot name specific people.
I know for a fact a parent has already made 2 complaints this year, but I feel like more has to be brought up.

Hey, parents making complaints is a GREAT start! If they'll listen to anyone, they'll listen to parents. If those keep rolling in, action will most likely be taken.

That's what I'm hoping!

Change the perspective for them. Check-in with them. Ask how they are doing? Share you seem a bit off when we bring the kids to you, are you alright? The direct approach will make a world of difference and shows them that we are all in this together!!

You are a teacher. I would address this with her. If 20 years in education has taught me anything was that I was a push over and let people take advantage of me. I don’t anymore. I am polite but direct. I had a principal talk me into eating with my class unpaid. Eventually I stuck up for myself and said I will do it if you pay me, otherwise I am taking my contracted lunch. They found another solution.

Really looking for a way to turn around a toxic building culture with staff to staff bullying, cliques/social isolation, hard feelings on big topics (racism, non acceptance of gender identity). Last year the staff polarized with the lead bully whom I helped leave. And the lead gossip (who was my secretary) that gained their sympathy and turned them against me. She also left. Now I need to regain trust and eliminate unacceptable teacher behaviors. Open to any and all advice.

Do you think using “him/her” for “he/she” (ex: “her is playing” “him not here yet”) is something that kids usually grow out of? Or does it need direct intervention? I have 2 students who exhibit this error, who otherwise should be dismissed. Normally I’d just keep them on and work on it alongside other goals, but they don’t have any other goals, and with COVID, and my upcoming maternity leave in March, a more compact caseload would be advantageous.

Pregnant with my second. I keep getting asked if I’m returning after mat leave. The answer is 99% no, but having trouble saying “absolutely yes” with a straight face. My answer has been closer to “maybe under the right conditions”.

Would you be more or less honest??

Has anyone figured out how to not feel absolutely horrendous when you wake up? I dread mornings because waking it so hard for me.

I prioritize getting 7-8 hours of sleep (this is the best I can do at the moment with work and a small baby) and I’ve stopped drinking because even 1 beer seems to make the morning 10x worse. Anything else I can try?

Ok if the work environment is toxic and the manager totally unsupportive ... And eventually you leave the job ... During interviews when the HR asks you why did you leave the job ? What should be the answer ? I have often seen / heard that you should never badmouth your boss or company no matter how bad the situation was at work ? Then what should be the answer to this question ?
