Nespresso machine!
@KPMG2, I would take a look at Nespresso. They specifically advertise their beans from specific places, show how they are authentic and not necessarily mass produced. Also the company is extremely green and separates itself from the Nestle brand.
Sure, I don’t have your morning ritual but I think I get an amazing cup of coffee/latte from a very solid source, but that’s me. To each their own!
1. Spend your money on quality, freshly roasted beans.
2. Spend your money on a burr grinder to always have your quality, freshly roasted beans ground the way you need them to be.
3. Think about your coffee apparatus.
If you do #1 and #2, you can use the Marriott coffee machine and make good coffee.
@McK1 - I am deliberately exaggerating about the Marriott machine.
However, bad beans and bad grind will make for piss-poor French Press, Chemex, Moka Pots, whatever suits your fancy.
Make sure your beans are roasted well in the last two-three weeks, and have them ground fresh in your house.
OP is on a budget, so they should spend their money on high-impact coffee station items.
Get a bialetti moka. It’s not quiiite espresso but it tastes damn good and is super easy and cheap
Second McK 1
If you can up your budget and wait a bit, you might be able to get something quality as part of Black Friday shopping next month.
There is nothing like a legit espresso machine like you see at good coffee shops. Nespresso isn’t quite as good, but much cheaper than going out to get coffee. You can also buy cheaper nespresso pods from amazon and Costco. Illy has their own machine and their pods are more expensive, but the quality is better than a nespresso, at least I think so.
You can also get a handpresso for ~100 bucks
